Best .22 cal bullet weight for coyotes?

Nosler 40 gr Ballistic Tips at 3900 fps work great in my 223 Ackley out to 250 yd. Beyond that it really likes the 75 gr A-Max at 3000 fps.

WOW that is an awesome velocity gain going to a 223 AI over a standard 223 I only get 3400fps with 40gr V-Max didn't realize the velocity gain of a 223 AI bumped it up to 22-250 velocities...

Camp Cook, your loads must be quite mild. The standard 223 will easily get 3700 fps with 40 gr bullets. Here's the data from the Sierra manual, in a 24 inch barrel: http://accurateshooter.net/Downloads/sierra223rembolt.pdf

There is a plethora of loading data posted that shows around 3900 with 40 gr bullets in the 223 Ackley. Here's just one page: http://www.reloadersnest.com/query_bw.asp?CaliberID=98&BulletWeight=40

I know several guys with 223 AI rifles, and all get this velocity. My 22 inch, 1:9 twist, rifle easily gets there with several powders, very fine accuracy, and tight primer pockets. :)

No not mild, I see now that I went for accuracy I use H322 powder and I am right at 3400fps with the 40gr bullets guess I better look into this a bit more and possibly switch powders.

Thanks for the link...

Stevo and Canadaman, I am down near Kingston. If you guys want to get together and do a Gunnutz coyote hunt somewhere let me know. I have some decent areas down here we could try out. :sniper:
