Looking for advice on the best .22 bolt action rifle for a 7 year old.

Single shot with the ammo in your hands just to be safe.

i would start with looking at the thompson center hot shot.

I bought A Savage Rascal for my 7 year old. It is a GREAT rifle to learn on. It cost me 165 at P-D enterprises. Extremely safe rifle, comes with the Savage Accutrigger and an adjustable rear peep sight. You will not find a better rifle in that price range.

The savage rascal, if at all similar to the cub, would be a decent little rifle. I bought my son a cub for his 5th birthday with a laminate stock when it was in production, and I don't think you could do any better. Accutrigger, comes standard with a rear peep sight, factory drilled and tapped for standard savage scope bases, you can't really go wrong. Accurate too :)

As above... the Savage Rascal or TC Hot Shot... can't go wrong with either... would also add the H&R Sportster Youth and Henry Mini-Bolt... my personal preference would be for the TC or Henry.

Chipmunk unless at 7 the kid may be getting big for it. very nice scaled down single shot bolt 22 with full peep aperature sight. check it out, old man started me on one when i was 4 and i still ghave it, another year or so my son and niece will be big enough to shoot it. i think ive seen them recently new for around 200, older ones seem to be better quality.

Recently bought my 8 yo son the Savage Mark II GY youth 22lr. It is a little longer and heavier than the Rascal but does not look or feel big for him at all. It's not a single shot but he actually wanted one with a magazine and wood stock. You can't go wrong with the Accutrigger feature too. I wanted something he'll be comfortably shooting for more than several years rather than outgrowing in a year or two.

My 7 yo son started with a Savage Rascal last spring. It was lots of fun for him, though he did want to upgrade to a magazine fed Savage MarkII, and he is enjoying the Malin 795.
Oh and he is verry safety concious. We are looking for a 22lr pistol now.
