Best .22 for a new shooter

Could you post a photo of how that bedding turned out?

The EM322,s are very similar to the NS522,s and there is a long thread here about doing lots of mods on them. I'm sure there are pics there of some bedded rifles. I did mine, and it came out pretty good for my first attempt. They can be made to shoot quite well.

Thanks for the post! I hear what you are saying about the price of the guns. Do you have a recommendation for a .22 at the lower end of the price range? or what would you consider to be a reasonable price range for a .22? Im totally new to this so all the advice is welcome :)

What is the lower end of the price range for you? Some can be had for under a couple hundred bucks used, And a NS522 can usually be found under $350.00 and they are a decent gun.

Do not choose a heavy barrel for a hunting rifle as there will be no noticeable difference in accuracy between heavy and standard barrels in the hands of 99% of hunters. On the flip side, 99% will definitely notice that extra weight on longer walks and when shooting from odd positions.
I made that mistake just once...

While I agree (my JW15 with the right ammo will put them all in the same ragged hole) it took three rifles (through warranty) to get one with a straight barrel. The first two I had, I had to drift the rear sights just about out the left side of the barrel to hit zero, likewise, with a scope, there was not enough windage adjustment available. They also need tuning; stock bedding, smoothing of sharp edges. I won our club's last cross country shoot scope class, with my JW and a cheap Tasco pronghorn 3 x 9 scope.

A better bet (I have one of these too) is the Scorpio .22. Much smoother, much nicer finish, and about the same price as the JW. Their barrels need bedded too. SFRC has them on for $200.00:

CZ is still the best bet, but it will be about 3 x the price of the scorpio. I have a CZ in .17 HMR, but my plan is to upgrade the JW to a CZ in the next year or so for no good reason other than it's not a CZ. LOL
I love that stock who has them?

Tenda and Durham Outdoors (there are others); extra mags are like $20-25 dollars, and they work, and they are steel, and you can take them apart to clean them.

I'm changing things up a bit today; I am mounting a scope on mine and heading to the range, it is going to be my new scope class rifle; and I am putting the iron sights back on the Norinco JW. I have been winning scope class consistently with my Norinco (some of the newer guys are getting a bit frustrated with their expensive rifles it seems), and have done well in iron sights with the Scorpio. This season I am shooting the other way around for variety.

Its pretty satisfying when you can keep up with the fellas that are using higher end equipment. Mine can hold it's own when I do my part and the wind is favorable.

Thanks for that, I would love to have one for one of my older rifles..
