I guess I should also be looking at the Marlin 39.

What is it that makes this gun so much better than the other choices?
Does anyone know where I can find a new one to check out (and possibly buy)?

Another vote for the Marlin 39,it's accurate takes long rifles longs and shorts what more can you ask for.

Largely unchanged for 100 years or so, not many designs are that good.

Mine is accurate, reliable, accurate, smooth, accurate......... well, anyways.

I did have a smith lighten and smooth the trigger, it needed help. Also added a 1/32 Firesight on the front, some day I would like to add a peepsight.

The BL22 is the only other lever that I've had the chance to compare with, nice, but not my cup of tea. Didn't strike me that it will still be made in 100 years.

My not so expert opinion.

On a side note, I had a Winchester Model 06 pump .22 out at the range the other day, and she was a sweet little rifle. As much as I like lever actions, I'd get a pump instead. :)

Vote went for the 94-22. Have one and love it. Have a Henry and is great for the price. Have the MARLIN 39 should have been in poll for that is the best and would have gotten my vote. MARLIN 39 just the very best!

What about the ERMA lever action, I believe it is a copy of the Marlin. absolutely zero problems and dead accurate. outstanding little rifle.

I had a marlin for nearly 20 years and liked it but I did have trouble with the extractor and had to replace it twice. The original extractor on that design was machined steel with a spring, later they went to a flat peice of metal that acted as extractor and spring as one. But it didn`t seem to standup in my early 80`s Marlin and I have know a few guys in my neck of the woods who had the same complaint. We all live in heavily gopher populated areas so their is a heck of a lot of ammo put through theses rifles. The newer extractor reminds me of a hair pin or something, so now I have switched over to a Winchester 9422 that has a Machined extractor, and a PROPER hammer that doesn`t have the stupid cross bolt on it. Its too bad they have stopped production of these.

And yes I do clean my rifles regularly ie in a .22 every 500 rdsor less so it wasn`t a dirty chamber that caused faulty extraction just poor redesigning of a sturdy part in the name of profits.

But I do like Marlin firearms and hope to get soon a 45-70 for camping.

The marlin 39 is the the Browning A5 of shot guns! Each hand made and heavy because each one was machined of real steel!

They are the pythons of lever actions!

You get what you pay for,and they don't go down in price!

Mine is made in 1948 but is pristeen as it will be 100 years from now!

They are all nice rifles for sure, levers are great. In my book though for VALUE the Henry is untouchable..... A fine rifle at 60% of the price of the others.
Like I said I like them all (and will likely own them all eventually). Right now I only have the Henry and I would buy another one in a heartbeat if I just wanted a lever rimfire. I may buy the other brands, but they will be just becuase I like levers..... not because the Henry can't handle everything I need it too.

Same here. I love my Remington 572 BDL Fieldmaster Pump! Well made and accurate!!! If I got a lever .22 it'd be a Marlin 39A. :)

Why isn't the Marlin on the poll anyway?

Actaully I saw a "road test" of 22 levers and the one that won the most votes based on magazine, smooth action and accuacy etc was the little Ruger lever. I think it was the best price too!
I just took a quck look in LeBarons. The lettle lever is 379 bucks and has a nine shot mag.
