So my little brother is turning 30 this year and I want to surprise him with a handgun in .22 LR that he can use to hunt rabbit and grouse on his property (In the US!! This is legal!! Please don't tell me that he can't hunt with a handgun in Canada; I know!!)

Assuming price is no object, what would you get?

Now assume that he used to steal my action figures and light fire to their heads, and once he rolled my bike into a ravine full of blackberries--what would you get?

For a hunting 22, how about a Ruger MkIII Hunter, stainless fluted barrel, nice sights, and scope adapter. Simple and indestructable.

And as a reward for defeating your army, an early model Walther P22.

S&W 17 or 617. 6" barrel.

Shoots CB's, shorts, longs, long rifles. Pick your ammo based on game and terrain.

Reliable, never jams, accurate, great triggers, holds their value well and are beautiful to the eye!

Browning Buckmark Field or Hunter (has a rail on for a scope/red dot, Hunter has a red dot).

If you want a poisoned cake, the Walther P22 early model will do :D

Thanks for the credible advice guys! As tempting as the 'poison cake' is, I'll be comparing a Ruger and a Browning--don't want to give S&W any of my money;-)

I have a 30 year old Smith & Wesson model 63 , 4 inch barreled , stainless , Kit Gun in .22 caliber . Pachmyer grips and this little beauty has been with me on many hunting expeditions . Probably 50,000 rounds through it without a hickup . Rested , it will shoot 3 inch groups at 50 yards and it's the one .22 handgun that i'd never sell or swap . I couldn't even guess how many bunnies i've taken with it .

High Standard with a bull barrel...my pops and grandpops used to hunt rabbits and grouse with them all the time (in the good 'ol USA). Gramps used to hunt WAY BACK with handguns in Canada....WAY BACK in the day. I have one of their SuperMatic Citations...It is still insane in terms of accuracy. I dream of sniping at grouse and quails with a .22lr pistola

Don't omit the Ruger single six revolver. Sure the've been around forever, but there is a reason they have been making them so long. They're awesome.
