Howdy folks:
Went to the range today to finish dialing in my .22 win mag Browning T-Bolt at 100 yards, I also brought four different types of ammo with me so I could
determine which behaved the best in my gun at 100 yds. The Four types were: (listed Highest price to Lowest price)

-Remington 33 gn. Accutips (MV=2200 fps) $20
-Federal 30 gn. TNT-HP (MV=2200 fps) $15
-CCI 30 gn. JHP (MV=2200 fps) $14
-Winchester 40 gn. JHP (MV=1910 fps) $11

At the end of the day I put up four targets and took 10 shots with each ammo type to see which would group the best.
The best grouping I got was with the El Cheapo 40 grain Winchesters JHP's: 8 out of 10 shots within a one inch area and two flyers (me no doubt) one inch to either side.
A Very close second place were the Remington's, followed by the Federal's, then the CCI's. Of course the Winchesters don't shoot as flat as the other three, but it's nice
to see the most affordable choice come out on top for a change.;)

I tried a bunch of those lighter 22 mag factory offerings in my Rem model 5 and the ones that shoot the best in my rifle are the 40gr Maxi mag, a very large difference in group size at 100 yards.
Now most of the other ammo's were still minute of death but the CCI ammo actually had bullets touching one another. FS

I've had the best accuracy with 30 gr vmax's, but prefer to use the winchester 40 gr JHP. I would like to find some cci 40gr JSP's sometime.
Good accuracy out of my .22 mag with open sights means about a 4" group at 100. Nothing to write home about that's for sure.

Scope?

What do you have on your T-bolt for a scope? Cheers

I have the scope nobody likes: a Simmons .22 Mag Scope 3-9x40 with Adjustable Objective. It's one of those cheap $80 scopes that everybody
scoffs at, but so far it's done fine by me. The only question is how well will it hold up? Only time will tell, I suppose.

I have the same simmons scope on my Marlin 925R .22, I found the rings that the scope came with to be total junk. I switched over to Talley one piece rings and it made a world of difference on my group size.

Don't let people laugh at you for shooting with a Simmons scope... I get good results from mine and they do just fine for plinking and target practice.

I had similar results.

The best ammo for my gun was Hornady vmax, but the cheap grey box winchester was right with it!

10/22mag with a 3-9vxII
