So I'm looking for a .22 pistol. One that I won't sell because it jams or is finicky.
I'm looking for your opinions, pics, and experiences. I'm simplifying my firearms collection down to the most useful and practical. It could be a semi or revolver. No single shots.
Alright go.

Ruger MKII in your favorite flavour (stainless, blued, target, regular) or a Ruger MKIII in your favourite flavour. I have a MKII and it is a very fun and very accurate gun to shoot.

Ruger MKII OR MKIII for more precision if you want something to replicate the look and feel of a full size gsg1911-22 or sig1911-22 hands down ive got a gsg and love it it will feed any 22 I can put in it not ammo sensitive at all now that being said since I started reloading all my 22 have been collecting dust only use them now to educate new shooters

I have a 1970's era Ruger MK1 target, and love it. If I was looking for a new .22 pistol I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Ruger MK for a second.

Another vote for a MkII if you can find one. Mine has been very reliable, accurate and is still a pleasure to shoot. I have had mine for over 20 years and would never sell it.

I have found that a revolver is less trouble in the long run than a semi-auto pistol. A huge benefit is it's ability to fire all sorts - and mixed sorts - of .22 ammunition. If you can load it . . . . you can fire it. No magazine issues, no dirty chamber issues, no strong/weak slide spring issues, etc. I have 2 S&W handguns ( a Model 41 semi & a Model 617 revolver). Guess which one never fails me? They are both superb functioning firearms, but the 41 is higher maintenance and is picky on ammunition.

Having said that, the semi-auto is a better choice (for me) if I am shooting quickly (e.g. Timed or Rapid fire Bullseye targets). My Double-Action scores with the revolver are not as high as with the smoother trigger pulls on the semi.

You don't elaborate on the type of shooting that you plan to do (e.g. non-competitive target, Olympic competitive, informal range 'plinking', etc.), nor the time or cost that you intend to expend in shooting. But, when you do decide to buy, remember that you get what you pay for.

As recommended by Blastattck above, the Ruger MK II/III line of handguns has withstood the test of time, and they are good bang-for-your-bucks.

For trouble free operation hard to beat a revolver like the 617. Semi 22s can be finicky with ammo.

Since 22 is not a reloadable ammo chasing after brass isn't an issue.

My Choice would be the 41 then the 617.. I have had more pickyness with the 617 believe it or not.. but I would not trade either and then the Buckmark is a nice pistol overall.

617 smith and wesson is ten shot... single and double action with flip out cylindre.. 4 or 6 inch barrel... beautiful chrome finish.. it will out last u and ur children

Is sw41designed for standard speed 22lr only as many other target pistols or or you can shoot high speed as well without damaging its frame?

Actually you can install a buffer and a different spring and fire away.. they do this at some competions as I'm told. I tried CCI MMags and it was just fine
