Best .22 pistol

No such thing as "the best" of anything. Its always subjective on a persons taste.
I personally prefer the Chiappa 1911 as I like the design of the 1911. But Ruger seems to make good target models for accuracy and build quality as well.

+1 for Margolin's. Then I'd go with Unique, and then Pardini. Pardini is better then both but costs you more, you'd be lucky to find one used for 800$. But, if your plan is to keep it then I'd
recomment buying new with correct grip size. Or, if money is not concern and you positively want "da best" then have a look at new Walthers. It may run up to well over 2500$ but it is the best 22 for all I know.

You might have to make allowances for smaller, novice shooters.
My example I have an excellent Ruger Mk II 5.5 inch bull barrel. However, my teenage daughters at the time found it too heavy for thier little hands.
I ended up purchasing a Star Model F, and although it could not hold a candle to the Ruger @25 yards for accuracy, my girls and the one nephew could care less as they shot at 10 yard targets and they were very happy with thier results.
YMMV......
GSG 1911 - best for novice shooter - non intimidating looks, light, quite accurate and big cool factor - similar to Chiappa, just better.
I have the Sig Classic P226 in .22LR but the gun is wide and fits big in your hand. Which is fine with me, but maybe a problem for a smaller shooter.

The side benefit is that they will likely appreciate in value over time.
The standard Browning or Ruger recommendation are good values for the money. The Margolin is also worth considering; they were used successfully for many years by Soviet teams in international competition. Stay away from the Chiappa 1911 or any other pot metal gun.

speaking of those I forgot to mention - have a look at IZH35m. Hard to find for people rarely part with them. Also, if you ever come across decent FAS (Domino)is also a keeper. I had model 602 at some point and regret I sold it. Model 607 is supposedly even better.
One point to remember while shopping for 22 pistol - if your kid will ever get serious about target shooting (and what else do we do with them), he will outgrow any other pistol beside those I mentioned in his first year.

Well I would recomend the M-93 by norinco. Its a copy of the Woodsman and shoots extream;y well. It is made very good....very acurate and fun. Price..$149.00. There are plenty of revues here on Gunnutz.
