BEST .22 suggestions!? Help please

Hi everyone, i’m looking for your suggestions of the best bolt action .22 with mags and open sights? Any and all help is much appeciated. Thanks a tonne!

As said above, we need more information about your application and budget. Otherwise you get Lamborghini and Honda recommendations side by side and that's probably not what you had in mind.

If my eyes were better, I might still own my recommendation=BRNO 2E. A CZ452 Lux was a newer version of basically he same gun. Most fun I've ever had shooting open sights.

I'll second the Brno 2E and add the 452, I have owned two 455s, they were also amazing shooters, but the Brno 2 is a bit lighter, a bit finer made with a beautifully contoured barrel, not the straight taper of the 455/457 rifles, and just suits me. I added a YoDave trigger kit and that took it from a very good rifle to a great rifle. Mine also has the nicest, fanciest piece of walnut on it I have ever seen. Nice ones can be got for anywhere from $400-$600; you just need to be patient.

Anschutz are excellent, but you usually pat a premium for them.

Savage B22 is very accurate and under $400 in synth, but most not with irons. Advantage is rotary mag that doesn't stick out the bottom. MKIIs are about as accurate and many come with irons, but stick mags - usually around $300. These seem to be the most accurate for the money - I put a Covenant C-4 6-24x50 FFP ($500 w/tx) scope on my B22 and keep around 1/2 - 3/4" @ 50.

5 round CZ mag does not stick out or snag, and 5 rounds is enough for me.

You guys are unreal, thanks for the input, my apologies for not being specific enough. More specifically, looking for one for hunting and plinking, a good first rifle for a youth, new, with heirloom potential, and under $1000. I know it’s all pretty specific but the savage mark 2 GY seems to be lining up, although quality i have no idea.

No problem, we're all very happy to spend someone else's money!

Do you need to include optics in this budget? If so, plan on at least $300 (the sky's the limit!) for a scope that will be worth using 10yrs from now. Bases and rings will be on top of that, probably $20-100 depending on your rifle and scope of choice.

That Savage Mark II GY is no slouch in the accuracy department, but it's not what most will class as an heirloom. The magazines are cheap and cheap feeling, but they work just fine as long as you don't step on them. You could easily upgrade the stock if you want, either to a nicer youth stock right now or put a full length stock on as the kids grow up. But most importantly it will be easier for a youth to shoot (shorter length of pull) right now.

A nicer youth rifle can probably be had from CZ, Browning, Tikka, etc., all within your price range.

The only thing really matching that requirement is going to be CZ457. The Savages are good guns but not something you'd pass down by any means.
Stretch the budget or go used and a lot more opens up.

One .22 as heirloom is a bit tough to decide. As grandson came of age to shoot, our son had borrowed a Ruger 10-22 - once "going shooting" was no longer to a range, but now to shoot gophers - the 10-22 came back and a scope sighted Cooey 39 left - it was gone for a number of years and came back - young fellow (now 15 years old) is quite happy with CZ 452 Silhouette with Mueller APV 4.5-14 x 40 AO scope. Has gone through many hundreds of rounds in other Grandpa's pasture, at gophers, this summer. He is quite happy with it. His Dad is using a Winchester 9422 with Williams aperture sight. Seems to be the best for each, so far.

I started to assemble a small collection of rifles made the year that I was born - 1955 - the .22 is a BRNO #1 - pretty much "heirloom", I think - iron sights, QD Warne rings, Leupold rimfire 2-7 scope - I am quite sure that I found a correct front sight hood for it. Someone will have to "make do", I guess.
