Best 22lr lever gun?

I've heard the bl22 are a pita to strip and clean according to YouTube, which is not what I want. Is this not true?

Sure, it's not as simple as a 9422 or 39... but once you've done a few times, it's pretty straight forward. They are nicely built rifle, minute-of-squirrel accurate, reliable. And the short throw lever is actually quite nice... they are still being manufactured and price are still reasonable.
(But I still wouldn't field strip a BL22 in the bush!)

I'm kind of partial to the 9422, as it was my first gun. A 39 mounti would be my 2nd favorite, the working of the action isn't as smooth as the 9422.

HI; The Marlin 39 are nice. Browning BL 22 are tough to lever and throw you off target to lever and are tough for kids. Also some are accurate some not so much. Winchester 9422 are the best all round choice, for adults. Henry? Never shot one.

The only one that I shot for accuracy was a 39M with a 3-9 Sightron.
The purpose was to encourage shooters at 100 yards to prove that any rifle will perform decently with properly tested ammo.
This rifle preferred CCI Select and would shoot into the 9-ring on the 100 yards target for ten rounds.
Unfortunately, too many do not believe the 22 long rifle is accurate beyond 50 yard pop cans.
They were also discouraged when they saw unlimited guns which they thought they could not compete against.
Too many people are discouraged too quickly.
Of course there are always those who are overly confident and are going to how everyone up . . . they also depart never to return.
Those who see the challenge will be back.
So the challenge is to show some proof the BL 22 or the 94/22 have any inherent accuracy.

I've shot the Henry, Marlin, BL-22.
The Winchester 9422 with the Skinner peep sight is my first pick by a wide margin.

Probably the 39a a older one if you can find one. All steel and super easy to clean since it comes apart with a large screw on the side.

My Dad was able to find a NIB one at a gun store a little while back for $1200 I think.

After owning several models I have settled on the Marlin 39-A. Easy to clean , scopable , accurate enough ,
easy to operate , all steel & walnut .

Winchester 9422. No contest.

^the only lever action .22 I've ever owned, but sold after a couple of years. Lost some appeal because of how poor a candidate it is for scope use, and I found crud/residue from shooting 22LR ammo found it's way down into the trigger group quickly. Easy enough to take apart/clean.

I've never shot a BL-22 but I've now handled a few of them. For me, I'd rather chance a BL-22 than buy another 9422. Never got friendly with it, but I should have also kept it with iron sights.

Based on your criteria, I wouldn't go with the Henry base model. I owned it and it worked good, but was super cheapo. Cast pot metal? receiver covered with a painted metal cover, plastic barrel bands and front sight.
BL 22, have had a few. They were accurate but as stated, not fun to take apart. That one little spring on the left was hard to get back in properly.
94-22, have had a few. Excellent rifles. Well made. The earlier made ones were better quality. Big solid internal parts. The barrels are not threaded into the receiver but no issues.
39a/39m, have had a couple. Excellent rifles. Well made. Again, the earlier ones were better quality and just look better without that cross bolt safety. Very easy to take down and clean. Nice solid internal parts.
Ithica 72, and 49r, were both cheapo too. Ithica 72 was basically a Henry, and the 49r was a cheap cast and painted cheapo.
If I was buying one today, I would go with the Marlin or Winchester because they seem to be a better investment, but if I was just wanting something to bang around and shoot 20,000 rounds out of, it would be the BL22. The BL22 is not as traditional, but it is quicker to shoot and very well made.

I like my Henry small game carbine best so far not the smoothest and they need a taller front sight but the 17 inch oct barrel is the best choice for velocity and balance in my opinion. I switch between 4x and 3-9 and the skinner peep sight depending on the usage. It's the only 22 I own that seems to shoot cheap Rem Golden bullet well.

Depends on how far you take it down. Just for cleaning, no, it's fine. If you strip it right down, yes, assembly takes a little skill and thought. Personally, I prefer the Marlin 39 over the BLR22 or the Win 9422. - dan

Any brass looking Henry is a sham. Zink alloy receiver combined with brass like side plates that scratch easily. I was looking into them last year before I decided on the bl-22
