Best .22lr option if I can only own one.

Looking for a .22lr that is virtually jam free and easy to clean, and I only plan to buy one for hunting and plinking.

Recently I need to downsize. So I am selling off every .22 I own in hopes to get one, and one only. Im open to semi and bolt.

My budget is about 600 ish.

ill be the one to say it... ruger 10/22 just fed mine 500 round of cheap ammo no issue... you can also do anything and make it look like anything you want

I picked up a Savage MK2 BGTVXP off the EE, what a tack driver. Needs a scope upgrade but it shoots ragged holes at 50 yards with 222 round bulk winchester .22lr. One of these days I'll be trying the .5" group challenge, maybe once I upgrade the scope.

Any flavor CZ 452, for $600 used. Alternately, you can also get a new CZ 455 at Reliable Gun in Vancouver and they start at $549, plus tax. Add shipping if you're not local.

Add decent glass for $250

In your stated price range I'd go for a CZ 455, remember you can do a barrel/magazine swap if you want to add 22 Mag or 17 HMR later on. Other option would be a Marlin Model 60, I find the Marlin to be both less expensive to buy and more accurate than Ruger's 10/22, and yes I own both.

If you can go for more dollars, a lot more I'm afraid, look at Marlin's Model 39A lever action.

My dream 22 would be:
Anschutz barrel. 20 inch. Threaded end for weights if needed
Fortner action. The thumb operated biathlon style.
A multi position stock with adj cheek and length of pull.
A bracket on the side to hold extra mags like biathlon rifles.
I figure a rifle build like this would be $3500+

No idea why everyone says 452 over the 455's.

I LIKE all the changes in the 455 over the 452.

Don't give me that crap about pinned barrels, that's how annies get em on also.

Amazing review here

I agree, but we certainly seem to be in the minority here on CGN. My CZ455 outshot my CZ452 by a wide margin during my comparison testing. So much so, that the CZ452 is now long gone and not at all missed, while the CZ455 still gets to go to the range almost every time I do.

If I was forced to pick one .22 rifle it would be a 10/22 takedown with multiple barrels (one barrel w/scope for long range work and one shorter barrel and red dot for plinking and Steel Challenge).
