Best .22lr riffle for reliability and accuracy? Is a heavy barrel worth it?

I bought the savage b series new model for 2016 very nice stock . and accurate mine is a 22mag and shoots 1inch 5 shot groups at 100 yrds which is good // many will say buy a cz or other high end 22,, however the bang for the buck is there on this savage model ,, also you don't have to buy a expensive trigger as they all come with a accura trigger ..

Best bang for your buck is the Marlin Model 60, probably the one with the synthetic stock, which is what I have. Having said that, I'll also say I probably enjoy my CZ 455 American and Marlin Model 39A the most, well for now anyway.

Marlin XT Bolt or Marlin 795 semi both accurate out of the box goodness well above their price points no mods needed

If you are looking for used and nothing fancy, track down a Cooey model 60.
Maybe it's just the ones I got to shoot, but IMHO best bang for the buck, if you like bolt 22s.
Adjusting the nut can be a pain, but once it's in the sweet spot, mine almost gets boring to shoot it's so easy.

That being said, the CZ 455 looks and feels great as well. Haven't fired one :(

Sorry, am very new to this. Didn't realize I was under a catagory

No worries, eventually the mods will move it where it should be.

Just buy whatever rifle you want to be shooting at 100+ yards and practice practice practice. For 100 yards I'd buy a nice 223 bolt action and practice as much as you can afford to.
Any quality rifle will outperform a new shooter so you can just assume that it's you. Are you going to be shooting off of a bench and/or sandbags? That will mostly show you what the rifle can do with the ammo you've chosen, once you take it off the sandbags it's all you but once shooting freehand the accuracy of the rifle means very little because you will be shooting 8+ inch groups at 100 yards.
Just remember that if you buy cheap ammo you will get cheap results. Quality ammo is needed along with a quality rifle and a quality scope if you want accuracy.

If a 22 is going to be first I'd keep your shooting to 50 yards for a while, till it gets boring tearing the center out of your targets.

Best bang for buck in bolts are the CZ rifles 452,455 you can't go wrong and there nice enough to hand down to your kids. I'm loving my CZ 527 in the woods for deer. I have not shot at anything but carried it for 3 drives and sits, light easy to handle and though I've been careful I have not babied it and she still looks good. Next rifle I buy is a CZ rim fire hands down. Been .among due with my Norinco but the CZ's are just fine mid priced guns. I am a milsurp guy so the old style blued metal and wood make them attractive old style arms with modern features like set triggers and thumb safeties.

I agree on the CZ's. Great quality, very accurate, good value for your money. As to the heavy barrel and if it's worth it, really depends what you'll be doing MOST of. If you'll mostly be target shooting, then I'd probably go for the heavy barrel. It can't hurt. If you're going to be hunting and walking around with the rifle, stay away from the heavy barrel. It gets annoying really fast carrying the extra weight around the field all day, and it's not going to make much difference at all when not shooting off a bench.

Want to get good with target shooting at 100+ yards. Want something accurate so I know it's me and not the riffle.

You can certainly shoot at 100 yards with a 22 rimfire, just make sure your expectations are in line and know that you will require a decent
scope, and very good conditions to achieve solid and consistent accuracy.....not to mention trigger and solid, rest.

If you really have aspirations to shoot at 100+, you may even consider a step up as someone else mentioned....223 or even a decent quality 17
if you want to keep costs down and enjoy rimfire. The lil 22's are a blast to shoot and are less forgiving at longer ranges, so I totally see the draw.

Great fun for less $$$.

We have a couple Savage Mk II's and so far, the best we can muster is a 1" 5-shot group at 100M (approx 110Y).....a better scope would help tighten them up.

That said, the CZ as people mentioned is a great rifle and I have seen some people post some excellent groups at 100 yards here.

Once you get out to 100+ yds with 22 lr, the trigger is going to be a huge factor.

Also the ammo, you will have to try every kind you can get your hands on and see which particular ammo your rifle likes best, and basically forget about the super cheap stuff at that range, too inconsistent.

And a heavy barrel is pretty much a must.
