Looking at getting a .308 precision rifle. I like the AR style. Prefer 18" or 20" barrel. Looking at a $10,000 budget, including optics and accessories. KAC SR-25? HK MR308? SIG 716? LM308MWS? Others? Looking for some opinions here. What do you own, or have experience with? What would suggest? (anything to avoid?) Let's hear it.

*edit: Also, feel free to comment on optics as well.

Thanks

Might be a better question for the Black Rifle section?

No, I'd like it specifically for precision shooting. (Feel free to comment on optics as well.)

Did you have a reply for the topic?

(the last time I tried asking about these .308 rifles on the MBR forum, I was told to post in Precision! I'm not playing 'musical forums')

Caramel will give you some good info on this topic soon. He's all about the semi-auto precision rifles lately.

Then if you like the AR 'style' and want precision I would suggest something like a Savage model 10 or Remington 700 in an MDT chassis, gives you the AR Style with the pistol grip, drop box mag, uses actual AR butt stocks, can have an 18 or 20 in barrel, and still be considered precision in .308
Then go with a NightForce NXS scope
Jewel trigger
maybe a muzzle break
Atlas bi-pod if not an LRA

How about the FN FNAR? Supposed to be sub MOA. I know it isn't an AR or variant but it can be hard to spend that kind of cash on a certified range use only rifle. Hard to beat for the NR type rifles.

Just had a look at the GAP site... nice looking rifle, thank guys. I've got all winter to decide and buy, there's no rush. Just figured I start some research now. Being AR isn't an issue, I'll be taking it out of the country in the spring. By then I'll have the rifle, the gear for it, have it set up and up sighted the way I want, and have some range time with it to get used to handling and maintaining it.

Still going to look at some other rifles and get as many informed opinions as I can. Research, research, research...

What about the JP Rifles, LRP07? Can't afford one but heard great things about them.

From what I have seen, chasing that extra 1/4 MOA drives prices way way up. The Armaliit AR10T is s heluva a rifle easly capable of sub MOA, but the exotic just have a bit better fit and finish plus some come with 3/4 MOA guarantee. Same deal as a nice savage bolt gun shooting sub MOA for 1K$, or buying a custom for 3K$.

I have a LMT 308 with a 18" SS barrel , leupold ERT 4.5x14x 50. I attended a DM clinic at Connaught and shot out to 800 meters with fig 11 targets. First off if you go this route get glass with a higher mag, second it would be a very good idea to reload ammo for it as I did.
