Best .357/38 DA revolver

I am wondering what everyone thinks is the most durable, wile being reasonably accurate and smooth DA .357, or .38special revolver would be? Prefer something used, and definatly nothing new from ruger, may consider taurus. You could count the service six from ruger however if you like?

I am talking mostly action shooting type wear and tear. Oh and I don't have 12.6

If your hands are a little smaller, there are a few K frame revolvers floating around with 106mm and up barrels. I love my customed model 10. My 586 is a very natural fit to my hand, but I had to get the larger Hogue grips to make my Mdl 10 fit as well. Model 10s and model 19s are the classic combat revolvers, 586/686 is more of a target revolver to me.
 
If you are mostly going to shoot .38's get a model 19 (or the stainless equivalent) If you are mostly going to shoot full house .357's get a 586/686.

If you want something bigger for .357 get a Model 27 or 28--superb shooting guns but I personally prefer the 586/686 size.

All are Smiths of course.

For strictly .38sp.....any K frame S&W will suit you well.
686 is about the best bang for the buck in .357.
I'm not a big fan of shooting alot of .38 in a .357.....I prefer to load .357 with mild loads behind a nice wadcutter rather then the shorter .38 case. Can get hard to clean all the lead and crud out of the cylinders.
 
I love the look of the classic S&W's but I wonder why no one mentioned the Rugers? Now I make my choices more on liking classic looks but the Rugers seem to have quite the following with serious revolver shooters.

Are you married to the idea of .357/38? My next revolver will be a .44 special S&W triple lock. .44 spl can do everything ,it can be loaded light or heavy and it really appeals to my sense of nostalgia.

Probably because they can't compare to a S&W as far as double action trigger pull goes.

Now I make my choices more on liking classic looks but the Rugers seem to have quite the following with serious revolver shooters.

I don't know about that. I think you would be very hard pressed to find a Ruger anywhere on the line in a PPC match.

I also don't think you'll see too many people competing against Jerry Miculek in the various action revolver competitions shooting a Ruger instead of a S&W.

And the PPC and action shooting types are serious revolver shooters.

Of course, ultimately, the shooter should choose the revolver that tickles his fancy, not necessarily what delights everybody else.
 
My tuned S&W Model 28 does everything that I can expect. My M&P .38 Special is also agreat shooter.
I would not overlook the similar Colts.
Somehow I would prefer one of the fine older classics to many of the brand new offerings.
 
My vote would go to a nice S&W M27-2 like the one I own. Regards, Richard:)

Well they are durable, but they don't look as nice as an N-frame. Someone once said that Ruger revolvers and hockey pucks have about the same degree of failures and part breakage...:D

best 38/357

I am a S&W guy, compete with a couple (hmmm - more than a couple) - 610, 629 4", 686 4", 627...

BUT don't write off a well-kept GP100 ruger! Those guns shoot very well indeed and although the trigger pull is different, I like it (all mine are tuned, mind you :)) Security Sixes, not pretty but strong and usually a bargain! Pythons - a lot of status there, but I like S&W's better. I do have a Python barrel on a Security-Six lower, VERY customized, and it is a gorgeous shooting gun :) Dan Wessons, great accuracy, horrible DA triggers, Taurus - well maybe if it's real cheap...

I love Smith & Wesson revolvers. My current .357 collection are models 19, 27, 28 and 686. Looking for a 66 and a 586 to add to the collection.
