That is readily available in Canada? Been a rifleman for my hunting career so far but there is some thick not far from my house that harbours some nice whitey's! So bought a mares leg, threw a butt stock on it and gonna try getting to know that tangle of intertwined scrub crap.... The longest shot I can see is 80 yards and that's being generous. TIA

Hornady makes a leverrevolution round in 44 mag. Readily available? Probably not. The Hornady XTP probably is more available and very capable at 80 yards.
Ammosupply has those HSM bear loads in 44 mag. Maybe too much penetration for deer but still nice to have in bear country. I'd love to see some gel tests of that round. 44 is a big hole anyway so meh expansion.
Federal Fusion?
I interpret "readily available" to mean I can order it off the internet and have it in a week. You may interpret it differently ie your LGS - if so, just go there or call and see what they have.
If it were my choice I'd be all over ammosupply for those bear rounds, but I haven't filled my bear tag yet so that could just be me.

On a side note OP where in the interior are you. Im in williams lake area I could give you some 300+ gr cast bullets to try.

Message me if you like

If hunting whitetails, (based solely on experience with a muzzle loader) I believe any 240 grain or heavier bullet would be very effective. You'll probably get quicker kills with hollow point, but lose more meat too.

At the possible ranges that you will be shooting any 44 mag bullet types will inflict moral wounds. Shot placement is more critical ( hit what your shoot at !) 44 mag aren't no powder puff loads ( unless that they were loaded reduced charges) I understand your concerns but don't worry if you do your part they will put it down.
