I don't think the colour has anything to do with quality, they had the firing pin update and I believe the gas block screws are a bit different on newer models but that happened before they came out with the black models. I think they are all anodized and just painted over it. For all other models they offer both colour schemes, so yes, they will probably offer the 2 colour tone again.

What often happens is that everyone wants the FDE when they are less common (rare) and the other way around. Human behaviour.

Would be nice if people would stop bashing the Siberian, pretty sure it is the most sold semi in 556 in the market, so it can't be that bad. And people do not like it when others are bashing what they own. For a reason, yes, but solutions should be offered not bashing.

I have the exact same question about a good 5.56/ .223 semi-auto, NR that is available in Canada. The Tavor X95 was never in the running until I held one and checked it out. It is now the one I like the most. I will save up the extra money and purchase an X95 when I can. Seems to me to be one of the more reliable semi-auto's out there, magazines are priced good and have wide availability.

That pretty much covers the less expensive non restricted semi auto. I will give an honorable mention to the ruger american ranch. Yes it is a bolt action so your split times will be maybe 20 hundredths of a second longer working the bolt. But it has a nicer trigger and is more accurate then any of the above and more accurate than other more expensive 223 non restricted.

Of the less expensive 223 options if you were doing 3 gun competition probably look at the mcr or the keltec or the MR1. The goofy safety and weird mag change of the type 97 will slow your times a bit. Now if are preparing for a post apocalypse book of elijiah affair the T 97 would be my pick. It will likely work when others might fail and the weird safety at the end of days well

Heya so I have done my "armchair research" on the Bren 2 and it seems like something I really want to add to my collection, can you tell me a bit about why you would choose it over say a RK18, Siberian, Raven, or the SG540? I want to get back into the 5.56 caliber but with so many options I like asking people who have had experience with the rifle.

The Bren is insanely expensive for what it is, it’s a $2200 gun tops, even with the “NR tax”. My Siberian can shoot +\- 2” groups all day with the cheapest 55g bulk ammo I have, the Bren can’t tighten below 3.5”, opens right up when hot whereas the Siberian stays about consistent.

I sold the Bren and bought more ammo and a better scope, much better off.
I have a Raven on the way, reviews are looking good, if it’s compares with my Siberian I’ll be happy.

PS my Siberian is at about 1000rds, so not very much. There have been zero malfunctions, I use mainly 458 socom, and 50 Beowulf mags.

My experience (sample size of 1) is the Bren 2 shoots 3" groups at 200m with bulk 223. Will need to do some serious testing but very promising. Owner duplicated the results so can't be a one off

5 round groups after sight in. 2 separate shooters at 200m

I have a 542 and I love it! Tempted to get the 5.56 version but Ive heard magazines are impossible to find
