Best 6mm for PRS

Exactly. Any advantaged of SRP over LRP are so small that it's really not worth further derailing this thread.

At the end of the day, pick a cartridge that works for you and run with it. If it works for you, who gives a sh*t what someone says on the internet.

There are no perfect cartridges, and it's a balancing act of compromises. Lots of great options out there.

Norma or Peterson, or you could form from Lapua 22-250 etc

I use Norma right now, want to try some small rifle primer brass one day...

The only problem with 6mm cartridges is that they start loosing to 6.5mm cartridges past 600 yards.
The same could be said about 6.5mm cartridges which loose out to 7mm cartridges past 1000 yards.
If you prefer the low recoil way, just get a 6mm Creedmore.
A 105gr Berger hybrid at 3000fps is an excellent low recoil load.
As for barrel life, after 1400 rounds fired, expect 1/4" of throat erosion!
 
Alpha makes great 6xc brass that is srp, and I don’t feel under guned past 600 against the 6.5’s 6mm will hold its own all day long, 6xc at at 2930fps with 115 grain bullet and 6ra at 3000fps with 107 bullet both work very well.

Really depends what load you're running. I run 110 SMKs at 3100fps and I'm pretty sure I've got better ballistics to 1000 than any 6.5 that's not a magnum of some sort. The 110 and 115gr 6mms are pretty awesome lil bullets.

Zero brass prep..last about 5 to 6 firings running 115 Dtacs at 3150 and 7 to 8 on a 3080 fps load. Less wind drift then the 6.5 140 stuff at a1000 yards. #### for recoil and muzzle lift apposed to the 6.5 130 or 140 gr stuff. hits past 1500 m are quite easy. LRP gives me SD sub 4 fps. If you don't handload I would run a 6CM. Factory 108 eldm ammo is quite capable of running sub .250 on 5 rd groups and very low SD. Lots of great options in 6mm offering...except the 6 SLR..that one is junk for sure...hahahaha
Gain twist barrel have run over 1800 to 2000 accurate rds on the 6XC. Must better barrel life then a std twist barrel

According to the PRS Blog the following is a list, in order of popularity, of cartridges used by the top 50 finishers:

1. 6.5×47 Lapua
2. 6×47 Lapua
3. 6XC
4. 6.5 Creedmoor
5. 6mm Creedmoor
6. 6mm Dasher
7. 6mm Super LR


In the top 10 you had 2 shooting each of the following: 6x47 Lapua, 6XC and 6.5x47 Lapua, and one each of: 6mm Creedmoor and 6mm Dasher.

I built a 6x47 Lapua back in 2009 and it's a great cartridge but there is no doubt that I would choose 6mm Creedmoor or 6.5 Creedmoor now because:
  • wide availability of tactical/target rifles chambered for the cartridges
  • wide availability and choice of great match ammo
  • big mo(mentum) (6.5mm Creedmoor is now US SF sniping cartridge)
From a practical, but maybe not performance point of vue, it's the clear winner.

Note : personally, I think that 6mm is "optimal" simply because it the smallest "high power" cartridges according to many shooting rules and I hate recoil.
(If 22 or 23 caliber cartridges were considered "high power" cartridges, it's possible that 224 Valkyrie or something similar might be even better.)

A good bit of advice on that site was "pick one and stick with it". No point in chasing the newest shiny thing because it won't magically turn you into a better marksman.

Agreed. I'm on my third 6x47L barrel, and still running the same 300 pieces of brass I started with.
