That being said I'm currently shooting 180 grain VLDs out of my STW at 3200 FPS sub moa, seated to a depth I can utilize my magazine on a Sako AV action.

.270 win-it's pretty fast and not as expensive as a mag. and shoots almost as well.I would rather practise twice as much or save my money for something else fun.Don't forget-shot placement matters more then what you shoot.

The thing is SAAMI spec is very low for the .280. Remington introduced the cartridge to have .270 ballistics at a lower pressure (more suitable for the autoloader it was originally designed for).....

I have heard this argument for at least 40 years. Strange, that the same autoloader has always been available chambered in 270 Winchester.

Good point, although I've never been much of an auto loader fan as a choice of actions for a big game rifle, but that's just me. Until I picked up the Husqvarna from you, the 270 Win. was always a caliber void in my gun safe. As luck would have it, now I have two in that caliber. I picked up a full wood Sako in 270 from an old friend of mine that's no longer able to use it.

It was with the 275 Rigby that Jim Corbett shot the Maneating Leopard Of Rudrapyrang. After it had eating at least 125 of the locals.

Aside from the performance of the 7X57 it is these stories, those of WDM Bell and even some of Jack O'Conner that add to the history and mystique of this cartridge. Every time I hunt with my 7X57 it feels like I am bring along this history and proven performance.

I think I am going to go read that book again Gibbs, thanks.

Regardless of the reason, it is the truth!
280s have always been loaded lighter than a similiar 270, yet same case, same firearms! Some claim it was gun writers that attempted to kill it for trampling on their beloved 270 & useing a foreign metric designation.

When I was shooting the 7x57, that was the best 7mm.

When I bought a 7mm Rem Mag, that was the best.

I got a 7-08, and that was clearly the best.

Then I found a Ruger .280, and that was the coolest 7mm.

Right now the 7WSM is the most awesome 7mm because it is my most recent purchase.

Moral of the story is- they all kill stuff. And more importantly, they all use the superior .284" bullet.
