Well I got some more magpul gear in today for my SR-22. As I was sitting there installing it, I looked over at my Archangel Marauder, and felt like it hasn't seen any love in a while so I got to it!

Crayola to the rescue! (it looks wet as I haven't completely wiped the remainder of the gun oil off yet.)

I did the "Made in USA" in solid black to subdue it, I didn't really like the idea of it popping out as much as the white. It's a nice match to my SR now :D (the Marauder even got some left over Magpul rail covers too :D )

Any chance you can post a step by step (or a link if you already have) for how to do this? Does it stay on for a long time or do you need to touch it up once in awhile?

BTW is looks pretty awesome! Good job!

1) Take crayon firmly in hand
2) Apply to surface
3) Wipe excess

Bingo.

I have heard that if you wipe it down with a light coat of gun oil after you wipe off the excess it kind of "seals it in".

I also taped off the section I didn't want colored (ie. the "Archangel Marauder" and "Made in USA" were tapped off while I was doing the red)

After I applied one color I got a NEW piece of white scrap cloth to rub the excess off. DO NOT use a used cloth on a different color (Ie. the red excess cloth on the white section), it WILL BLEED! Just rub (not so hard as to rip the tapped section off) enough to warm up the wax to it will come off on the cloth.

that looks real sweet, but is there any chance of the wax melting if you are shooting in direct sun in the summer or if you leave it on the bench in the sun for a bit?

On the marauder, I would suspect that it would chip more then melt as it is a much larger area that is filled in than the SR-22.

Also, even the melting I find hard to happen, softening maybe.

From Crayola website
Crayola Crayons begin to soften at around 105 degrees Fahrenheit and they have a melting point between 128-147 degrees Fahrenheit (53-64C). The melting point is the same for all regular Crayola Crayons, however, because of the density and amount of pigment included in various crayons, the thickness or viscosity of the melted mixture will vary.

So if my gun is 53-64C I think I have bigger problems then the wax dripping out (The major sunburn I would be getting on my fair skin is much higher up that list! :D )

Nice job. I suppose if you could get some flat clear coat and brush it on overtop- it would seal it in.

That would be great, but not much will stick to wax - might be tough to find something that will work. Furniture polish or something, perhaps?

I see a trip to the toy store in my very near future to buy crayons...Majorsights, that looks AWESOME!! I tried paint, but it was so subdued in color that it doesn't really show. The Crayola really pops!!
