Best 9mm Ammo for Self defence?

Only hits count. Anything will do the job. Hp ammo CAN offer an advantage if it works as advertised. That being said, it doesn't always work as advertised. Don't trust your ammo to do the work for you. Place your shotS(plural).

okay so hollow points it is. i read somewhere before that some shops act a bit "funny" if you ask for em, is that true?

Depends on the store. If you go to Canadian Tire and ask, they will probably be like WTF. But if you go to a place like Ellwood Epps, where HP ammo is routinely stocked and purchased, you probably won't get a look.

But, if you own a handgun, you're probably accustomed to funny looks by ignorant and stupid people.

If your a skilled shooter i'd aim for head shots first, then the neck shots second, groin shots third, body mass shots forth.

I don't know if its me being such poor shot or you are way too optimistic in your shot placements. One of the two.;)

my thoughts, if Im in a self defense situation Im VERY concerned about my 9 going bang when I pull the trigger. Given that I think standard mil ball feeds 100% so shot placement is far more imp than ammo selection. 2-4 rounds standard mil ball body center, I think you won.

Agree 100%, what ever works best in your gun!

Flying ashtrays ( Hollow Points ) .
Iv'e hand loaded different types of hollow points & find speers work the best in my testings. Remember shot placements should be # 1 , then the ammo your using. If your a skilled shooter i'd aim for head shots first, then the neck shots second, groin shots third, body mass shots forth.

In other words, miss 3 times and then hit? I would be very impressed if someone pulled off a "neck shot" on an attacker running at them with a knife.

You might be able to get head shots easily against a paper target, but that changes very quickly in a high-stress situation with a moving attacker. You need to stop the threat as quickly as possible, and the best way to achieve that is to take high-percentage shots at the center of mass until the threat is neutralized.

LOL!!! Have you ever shot under stress?? Your front sight will look like its big like a balloon and you will be so scared that you will feel like ####ting your pants...

Failure to neutralize drill.

If you aren't ready for a knife attack - anything inside of 21 feet and you're pretty much ####ed. Even if you are ready, and it's outside of 21 feet it's a toss up.
