Guns on Gunsamerica are going for $1,200 US so where is the $1,100 difference? Seems to me it is almost worthwhile to buy them Stateside.

Most of the $1,100 is because Ronin is WAY overpriced. A better comparison is Wolverine who charge just over $2000 Canadian for the P7M13, which is around $1700 US on gunsamerica. Importation costs around $200 through Questar so you're only $100 apart and you haven't factored in exchange yet (though its low right now).

That said, I wanted a Canadian P7M8 because the barrel is so close to prohibited I did not want to have sunk $1400+ into it only to have it not be able to cross the border. Plus I wanted a new one from an H&K dealer because I wanted the lifetime warantee, and I wasn't convinced with the border crossing and the multiple dealers that would have to be involvde that I'd still get that.

Yes, I spent too much but Ronin was the only place I could find the P7M8 Jubilee in Canada. Hopefull I'll get to fire it before Wendy bans all our guns.

Is there a major price difference between an XD9 and a Glock 17 ?

averages:
XD9 $749.00
G17 $899.00

yes ofcourse, there are deals out there (like PO: G17 $799.00 IIRC)

IMO, the XD is one of the best guns around for the price.

The extra money is really just because it is a collector's edition. This was actually the first gun I ever bought, so I wanted something that was special (and paid through the nose to get it).

But, dude, if you begin with the best you have nothing left to strive for :p

I guess you could say I'm pistol-poor. At least as far as 9mm's is concerned. Have only 2 : HK P7M8 and Mag. Research's Desert Eagle( Baby Eagle).
Can't shoot more than 100 rds. rapid fire from the P7 (too hot) that's why I bought the BE. Love that 3.5 lb trigger in S.A. The P7 is quite accurate and very compact. It was designed for the West-German Police(at that time) and no-one thought that some fool in
Canada(me) would try to push a couple hundred of rounds through it in rapid-fire mode. With the BE comes a lands/groove bbl which I prefer for the lead bullets I'm pushing through it. And it never gets too hot.

For the money the Glock 17 seems to be the best for me. Many shooters have different opinions on which criteria is more important to them, and based on that, they choose the make they prefer. I think the Glock does very well in everything.

Unfortunately in Canada, those are under a special class and can only be owned by a select few. The majority of Canadian's will never be able to own one because the barrel length is less than 106mm. What I wouldn't give to own a stainless snubnose :(

I thought as much, but thought you might enjoy seeing my nickle DS anyway. I can't seem to figure out precisely which pistols/revolvers are acceptable by Canadian law. Most of my little stash are either compact 9's or snubby revolvers, so guess I'd be out of luck if I move to Canada.... (Which I don't forsee happening).

JMO, but I think the Sig P239 is a perfect cc pistol. But I don't think you can have it either.

I noticed someone mentioned a CZ, and altho I don't own one (yet) I have read on several firearm forums where the whole line of CZ firearms are excellent. Lots of US gun owners seem to be "brand name" snobs, but folks who own CZ's apparently love 'em.

Additionally, Crimson Trace has just released a set of their quality lasergrips for the CZ SP-01, and some of the CZ75 models. Eventually I hope to buy one of the compact (thereby illegal in Canada probably) CZ 75's.

I have a set of CT Lasergrips on both my S&W Airweight Bodyguard and my Sig P239 and they add remarkably to your potential for accuracy in low light, nighttime conditions. Additionally I've found that even in direct sunlight you can still discern the poa "red dot" on a target up to about 7 yards..

Five to seven yards is what I consider "self defense" range, and if I'm ever threatened by a bg further than that distance I'll just do a 180 and run for the hills.

Seems the dark side is that you are severely limited in Canada as to which firearms you can own while the bright side is that you still CAN own firearms.. You wouldn't be undergunned with a nice CZ or equal full size pistol, or even a longer barrel revolver.

The picture below is of my Ruger Security-Six 357mag.. My SS has a 4" barrel, but the same revolver is available in 6". I've had my SS since the early 1970's and even with all of the "newer/fancier" firearms I have the SS is still resting comfortably in the nightstand on my wifes side of the bed. IMO the 357 mag. is a super round, and you could do worse than to have one of these laying around. (Away from children, etc.)

I've noticed on www.Gunsamerica.com, www.Gunbroker.com, wwwAuctionarms.com these SS are still available for purchase at very reasonable prices. New, or used. The Ruger Security-Six is a sweetheart, has adjustable sights, available in stainless or blue, built like a tank, and will last a lifetime.

I know some folks prefer double-stack, high capacity, large caliber pistols and such, but if you can't stop a party, or start one, with 6 rounds of 357 mag then you are seriously in the wrong neighborhood.

Just ramblin', but wanted to offer you another option.

Well, I do love my CZ75, and as I mentioned before prefered it over my xd or glock.
It's not a sig 226 but neither is the price. Accuracy is pretty damn close and reliability wise, well I have over 15000 rounds through her now. No hassles.

In Canada short = evil

Basically just about any pistol with a barrel length 105mm (around 4.13") is "prohibited", meaning if you do not already legally own one registered in Canada you can't get one. Also most .25 and .32 calibre pistols are also illegal. There is an exception around purpose built target pistol (picture the kind you see in the Olympics).

If I was only going to buy one pistol

Anyway, which 9mm do you think is the best one money can buy, and why?
As much as I love the P7M8 and P7M13 I have ordered, if I was going to do it all again I think I'd buy a .40 cal Beretta 92 Steel 1, with 9mm and .22 slides. It is three pistols in one!

Have you looked at the Tanfoglio line? If you get their CZ clone in .45acp you can get conversion kits for the 10MM, .40.cal, 9MM, .22LR and I believe the .357Sig. NOw that is convertability!

I Have their "L" model in 9MM. Unfortuantely I am limited to the .22LR Conversion.

Next major purchase would be their .45acp gun and then the conversion kits.

Take Care
