Like the title says. Does anyone have experience fitting other brands of standard M16/AR15 magazines in the MR1. Also where is the best place to buy them in Canada. I already have some of the 10 round Rock River Arms magazines on order and was considering getting some of the Magpul PMAGs from Questar. I have read conflicting things about magazine compatibility with this rifle. If anyone has any personal experience it would be greatly appreciated.

I have a newbie question, so with the LAR-15 Mags in a non-restricted rifle (like the MR1), we are legally allowed to go into the bush to plink with 10 rounds in the magazine?

Yep, the magazines are prohibited or allowed based on the firearm they are designed for. No laws put any restrictions on their use.

You likely want to carry a copy of the RCMP document with you in case the legality question comes up in the field. I had a long argument and, ended up winning wings and beer, with a cop buddy about whether the magazines are a "prohibited device" or not. According to him the way the criminal code is written there are no exemptions on magazine capacity for centre fire semi autos. The average cop would charge you and let the court determine the interpretation. He flat out said make sure you have that piece of paper with you when you're using those mags.

Do we have a link to said document? :)

I keep a copy of the letters in my 223 ammo/mag bag...

I have also asked BC conservation officers about the legalities of hunting with these 10 round mags and they could not find anywhere where I couldn't use them so guess who is going coyote hunting in a few days with his XCR-L in 223...

:D

Got sidetracked a bit.

So what's not good....I've read somewhere that some are sticky to pull out (pmags maybe) but I can't remember.

Factory and LAR's good.....what's bad.

This why Scouts and Cubs are great organizations. Be Prepared!!

I use pmags and lar mags in my mr1 without a problem. I would caution that I would not get caught in deer season with a deer tag and a ten round lar mag in my mr1 in the bush! Hunting regs (at least in Ontario) don't care what the mag is designed for, and only loading 5 rounds into a mag that can hold ten will not cut it.
