best aftermarket sks stock?

The word "Best" assumes one is perfect for everyone, which simply isnt true. You have to look around, and ask people their oppinion on their favorite. Some like Tapco, some like ATI or whatever the latest is these days.

I have a Tapco adjustable on one of mine. Its nice to be able to adjust the butt to where I need it for a good cheek weld without hunching over like Quasimoto.

I would say the Tapco is alright, for just over $100. Its not a "damn, thats a fine pice of craftmanship" type stock, its a "damn, thats sorta badass" type stock. It includes a forward upper rail for a red dot or what have you. Was expecting a lower rail but it has the bayonet cut-out slot so no rail for a grip/bipod. {Heard you have to find and order this type specifically, make sure you know what you're ordering, especialyl for the bayonet type you have}

For $100, I can let my SKS wear it, and if it cracks or gets scratched in a year or two, big deal. Its synthetic, inexpensive and not an antique like the original stock. That being said, I have my 10/22 in the same Tapco stock and really find both to be quite acceptable.

I thought it would lighten the weight of the rifle, but it really doesn't. It just gives you options, adjustability, and that "black-appeal" if you like military/tactical blackness.

I had a tapco on mine and liked it. Mine wasn't the bayo version. It had a lower rail. My buddy just got an SKS with a dragonov stock and it's pretty cool. I like they way it feels a lot. My only complaint is that the way it's designed you must remove the stock to do any disassembly. Even the dust cover.

I much prefer the earlier ATI folder stocks. You don't have to remove the pistol grip to disassemble the SKS! They have a good LOP (for me), and they don't presume to be something they're not (tactical).

They do require an easy mod (shim) to take out the "wobble" from the folding stock, but once done, they work great.

[ My money goes on the Tapco, definitely aint no piece of art but as has been said, what ya gonna do for a hundred bucks. Its zero maintenance and opens up the lop for us knuckle draggers. Just shoot the bugger and toss it in the back of the truck without worrying about scratchin it....:)

wow.. those bullpup conversion kits modernizes the sks dramatically. Just skimming through to see if they're available in Canadia.... anybody have any input on this subject?

I do believe that bullpup stocks are on the prohibited list. Although you can still own a bullpup that was originally designed that way.

I have the Tapco stock with the blade cutout. Love it.

yea... that's the gist of what I've read as well... disappointing. :(
Chalk up another facepalm to the government... oh well.

Reason I asked is because I read that it's illegal to just simply convert them... but at the end the poster said "too bad they don't make a kit for that...." and now there is a kit available, so I figured perhaps it fell under a different section of the law

Do tell on this Dragonov stock I've been thinking about trying to get a SKS or SVT in one, is there a manufacturer or was it custom?

I used to have an awesome thumb hole stock from Australia, light as a feather and super comfortable, not sure who made those but I haven't seen one since the mid 90s :(

I've been looking at this stock for my chinese sks. Anybody have it or had it? Looking for some pros and cons about it.
Thanks

You don't have to break up the link to an official CGN Vendor's store. I've only tried the regular Tapco stock and it was a lot more comfortable for a full-sized human (5'9") than the laminate. The pistol grip was a nice bonus.
