I know that this is not what the rifles are designed for, nor are either what you would call 'accurate' in a grouping sense, but has anyone ever loaded up come good 7.62's with quality projectiles and slapped a nice scope onto a VZ / AK and see what sort of groups you get at, say, 100m?

I am just curious...

My Valmet does about 2.5 inches at 100 with the MFS made in Hungary 7.62x39 stuff... Iron sites, sandbagged...

Cheers

Hey Jay how much do you want for that Valmet?

PS is it an M78 in .308?

Not for sale, NEVER NEVER NEVER... I'd sell EVERYTHING else I own BEFORE I ever sold that!!! Well, maybe the LAST thing I'd sell is my wedding band, then the valmet...

Cheers
Jay
P.S. Keep posting groups guys!

I have managed a 5 shot 3" group at 100 wth my 858 and czech copper jacketed ammo, it has a reciever mounted QD red dot. I have a compact 4x scope coming in the post for another rifle right now, but I will try it on the 858 first. I would bet it will be good for 2" with this ammo.

Precision being the ability to do it consistently?
Yep, pretty much. High precission means multiple hits in a very tight group. Perfect precission would be multiple rounds through the same hole! High accuracy means the group can be big, but the midpoint of the group is right dead on target. Ideally you want a very precise rifle, as it's easier to change where those tight groups land by tinkering with the windage and elevation setting on your sights, than it is to make the group shrink tighter together.

My CZ-858-2 shoots under 4" consistently with Czech surplus with the iron sites. I figure the big fat front site post and the short sight radius are the limiting factor on this rifle and it could do better with a properly mounted scope.

+1
my $0.02 worth

I can do 0.5" groups of 5 at 50 yards with my 858-2. This is with the czech surplus stuff and a 3 minute red dot. I'm very happy with that. I'd like to put a long eye relief scope in the two power range to see what it can do at 100 and beyond.

Bwahahaha!!! Nope... I'm sentimental (spelling)... So ya... Last two things to go... Valmet and then the ring...

Well, back before that silly range ban I did get around 1.5" groups at 100 with a Norinco 84S. My Polytech x39 was by far the worst with groups 4" or bigger. The Hungarian SA85 was good for 2" and it compares to my VZ58 in accuracy...R..
