My choice would be my 30-06 if I could only have one gun. But if you like the 45-70 have at. My concern wouldn't be what it would do to smaller game. Those bullets move slow and do very little meat damage (not moch in the way of bloodshot meat). My concern would be distance. It's most effective out to 100 yards. Can it shoot further? Sure but it is better for the up close and personal scenarios. I might even have to use my GG on a spring bear this year.
Two good choices 30.06 or 338 win mag for me it would be the 338 and 225gr but I think I would feel better with 338 win if a grumpy bear was around

375 ruger magnum, it'll work on anything anywhere with minimum aiming required. But I do c lots of guys running 30:06, 270's and various short mags so if worst comes to worse one of those may work too.
