Best all-around semi-auto for sporting

here it is

^^^^ A400 ,shoots beautifully.

My semi is the maxus sporting. it shoots everything and doesn't skip a beat even in wet -30 conditions. the only con is it gets dirty. After 300 rounds its filthy. keeps shooting even the light stuff but needs a serious scrub down. Im not sure how dirty the others get but i hear less then the maxus/SX3.

I have seen the Browning and Winchester semi autos go 1000 rounds without cleaning, and with no issues at all. At that point, it takes me less than 10 minutes to do a proper cleaning.

In semi's I've settled in to a Benelli Supersport and a Browning Maxus Carbon Sporting in 12 gauge which are both great guns. I fought with two different Beretta 391's which got sold off. No issues at all with target loads with either gun and each is cleaned after a day at the range with the nod to the Benelli for ease of cleaning.

Have a Beretta 391 20 gauge Gold Sporting that is a keeper.

If you don't want to break the bank look for a used beretta pintail. It is an inertia gun that is simple and extremely reliable

My son and I both shoot Benelli Cordoba's...Love em..butt is adjustable, a trap cheek piece can be added. We use ours for skeet, sporting clays, and ducks and geese. Never had any ammo problems. Added Briley oversize bolt release's and Briley oversize cocking handles...darn near perfect shot guns. Absolutly reliable..and so easy to clean...no regrets with the Cordoba

Find yourself an older Winchester Super-X Model 1 with a 28" vent rib (mod or full choke) or 30" vent rib Trap full choke. Change the bolt buffer and have the choke reamed to Light Modified. It's only a 2 3/4" chambered shotgun but loaded with Kent Fassteel 1 1/16oz #3s, it's all you'll need for ducks anyway. For around $700 total you'll have the ultimate target/hunting semi auto ever built!

I am shootin a Bennelli Super Sport using 7/8, in clays powder.it is inertia system, very clean and easy take down. Had a AL391 and it was very dirty, even with Clays. Got a new 400 and the forestock wouldn't fit properly, got my money back. Seen a lot of different guns at the range. You get what you pay for. I have yet to say no to anyone who wants to shoot a round with one of my guns.

:agree: I have had both & definitely prefer the Benelli over the 391.

I've just started shooting trap with a Maxus Sporting. Seems to handle light loads ok. It comes with butt stock spacers as well as spacers to adjust the cast to better tailor the fit. I'm also installing a shell catcher so the empties aren't flying everywhere.

I have a new Browning A5.
Never set out to buy one, I had my heart set on a Unico a400. One thing I hate about the gas guns is the MASSIVE fore-end and the way they swing.
The A5 is skinny, and light out front. I also love the little extra sight radius.
I've over 1000 rounds thru mine without cleaning (bad me lol). Inside the first 200-250 rounds, 3/4 oz rounds were tough to cycle, but now shes loose.
Cant complain about a 3.5" inertia gun that'll do 3/4oz target loads.
Crap thing is there is no rifled slug barrel available for it.

I have a supersport and I love it. Best claygun out there IMO. I would take it in a blind, but a cheaper nova is probably a better choice for that (I wouldn't want to ding up my supersport).

I see you are an OFAH member, where in Ontario are you? If you are in SW Ontario I could meet you at the St. Thomas Trap club and let you try out the supersport for a round or two.

Yea, I'm not into the blue receiver at all. And I don't like that electronic counter in the stock. Seems like a useless gimmic

It IS a useless gimmick, detracts from an otherwise decent semi, and mine has died twice, so I gave up replacing it. I don't like the blue receiver either, stupid idea. But the gun works pretty good, and I love the kickoff.

A 400 shoots beautifuly will cycle anything almost never jams and isnt hard to clean maintain one forsale used on ellewoods site now for a good deal used. I dont think mine has ever jammed and i have put thousands of shells thru it shooting sporting clays and trap. Side note if u get into traveling to different shoot its lighter to travel with then some :p
