Hi I am looking at getting a 12ga 3.5" pump shotgun that I can use for clays, crows, geese and whatever. I have been looking at the 870 Mag Express and have heard that the quality is not what it should be and or used to be? Also interested in the Mossberg 535 but not too familiar with the Mossbergs. Any suggestions I am open to any brand Stoeger, Winchester, etc. Thanks for the help

hey deets what do you think I have been doing? If you don't care than don't bother to post

Yah I realised my #### comment as soon as I posted, its really trendy on this site. But trust me, there are lots of threads regarding shotguns. There is no best, your just gonna get opinions, and this site is full of them.

Have you tried asking your local hunting store?

If you want a gun to do it all in your price range. Mossberg 500 field/deer combo. blued steel, 26" ribbed field barrel with 3 different chokes and a 24" rifled and ported slug barrel for just under $400. I dont think you can do better new for that price.

still, id recommend finding a used 870 wingmaster on the EE

have you considered a semi-auto?
a Remington SPR 453 - 3.5", vent rib 28" barrel and itll come with a full set of steel rated chokes and costs about that much.

if you must have a pump then the Benelli Nova, its the best quality at that price range.
i am not a fan of the 870 Express Super Mags or the Mossberg 535. the Mossberg 500 Field is ok, but its not 3.5"... and IMO the Nova is a much better gun.

i agree with manbearpig, the nova is an excellent pump for the price

i have one that has cycled over 5000 rounds, everything from 2 3/4 target loads to 3 1/2 magnum loads with no problems.

it is also very easy to take down to sub assemblies for cleaning (no tools required)

if you can afford it the supernova is a bit of a step up with a bigger trigger guard for gloved fingers as well as some other upgrades

tried my friends new 870 and dont find the quality to even close to the benelli

The older 870s are nice but these days the Nova is the stud of all pumps in my opinion theyll handle anything nice shooting gun. My friend has one and i might be up grading my 870 for one. And keep my browning silver for clays. So Benelli is my Vote!!!My 2 cents Find the gun that fits you best :dancingbanana:

Hey Thanks for all the great advice. I looked for a 453 but they didn't have any. I checked out the Nova and the SuperNova and they felt way better than the 870, (mag and express). The Nova was a little more than I wanted to spend but I found that the P350 fit me really well, and the fit and finish impressed me more than the Express or anything else that on par with the P350. The Stoeger has a longer pull than the 870's (wood or synthetic) and is thicker in the trigger hand. It definitely felt more natural and I wanted something that would fit well. Anyway My next gun will definitely be from Benelli, I am beginning to see what you guys are talking about.
