best all steel rifle?

well I decided its time to get a new gun. its going to be my camp/brush gun that I will be taking up north camping and hunting. this its why I want it to be all steel and synthetic. example trigger guard, magwell, etc. I will be chopping the barrel to 18.5 inches and adding iron sights to it also. my budget is 600 to 800.

Yep. Worth the extra coin and will last many lifetimes.

zastavas are a hit and miss on accuracy,ive had three including one remington zastava ,all three r not with me,but have a friend who has one in 308 and it shoots pretty good. the acc rems r amazingly accurate out of the box,sold the pair i had and wish i didnt.

Lee Enfield No.5. If it doesn't already have an ATI synthetic stock that will add about $80 to the cost, but if you find one bubba already drilled and tapped and chopped the bayonet lug off, it will be well under your $600 budget and the barrel is already 18.5", it has good iron sights, metal trigger, trigger guard, magazine well, magazine (10 rounds!) The .303British will kill anything up north.

I just spent a little better than a hour researching these zastava rifles. I think they are quite interesting. I love that they come with open sights already. for 700 bucks is it a good deal. how does it compare to weatherby or savage for quality etc?

The Weatherby's are a tad on the heavy side.
Not a boner if you are going for the bigger powder burner's.

I wouldn't bypass the BLR's for quick and easy.

I own a 760 in 30-06 with an 18.5" barrel and I love it. Good weight, accurate, good bushwhacking rifle. It also has the drop mag and comes with iron sights. you can pick one up for about $500 (on the higher end). You can also get a new 7600 carbine (18.5") synthetic stock for about $700.

Not to revive a dead thread, but the Rem 7600 is a hell of a brush gun. The Amish machine gun mounts naturally and handles like a champ. I scoped mine, so the monte carlo stock is perfect. If keeping iron sights, I would replace the butt with that of a 20ga 870 so I could see the iron sights with a straight comb.
