Best Ammo Brand for Colt 45 ACP Government Model - Stainless ??

I purchased a brand new Colt 45 ACP Government stainless recently. I haven't purchased ammo for it yet as I am still in the probationary shooting stage at one of the gun clubs I want to be a member of, however, when I do go to purchase ammo, I want to make sure I buy ammo that will NOT damage my gun.

The brand of ammo that I have been buying for my probationary shoots is 9mm Sellier & Bellot which is a Czech Ammo manufacturer from the club store. These are being used in the range officers own handguns for all my shoots.

Is S&B a trust worthy brand that won't f-up my expensive handgun, or should I be looking at a better brand. If so, which brand should I be looking at?

Regarding S&B, they have a 45 Colt and 45 ACP. What's the difference and which should I buy???

Also, what is everyone's thoughts on reloaded ammo? I have a very trustworthy club member who has been shooting all of his life (He's about 65-ish) and has his own firearms school and is well known in the community. I have no doubts he makes excellent reloads. He's offering to sell me reloaded 45 ACP's at a very good price over fresh store bought stuff. My only concern is what kind of wear and tear do reloads cause on the barrel of the gun that a brand new round wouldn't???

If it's reloaded and sized properly it would be the same as factory loads. If you damage you gun though you can't go back and complain to the manufacture. Also accidents do happen just look at the reloading fourms
 
Factory ammo is all saami spec'd so short Of recalls you should be fine. S&B is fine.

45 colt likely refers to 45 long colt. not the same as 45 acp. Dont mix and match. Make sure the hadstamp on the gun matches perfectly the stamping on the gun. When you say a colt 45 acp gun, I assume you mean a Colt 1911 in .45 acp. Be sure you KNOW.

no one can answer your reload question but the guy making tje reloads. the whole point of reloads is customizability. he could use out of spec recipies or not. out of spec ammo could be fine or not.as a general rule i suggest you avoid non commercial reloads until you are competent and comfortable to do it yourself. Bad ammo could cost you your gun/eyes and fingers.

Stick to factory until you have the confidence to judge reload quality for yourself.
 
The Colt cowboy revolver shoots 45Colt. Different gun and different ammo than a 45ACP.

Any brand of commercial ammo will work and be about the same. I suggest you buy several brands and see if one groups better than others in your gun. but if you are a new shooter, you probably won't be able to shoot well enough to see the difference.

SFRC sells Wolf brand commercial reloads. I suggest you buy a case of their 200 gr Semi wadcutters. Cheaper and probably more accurate. the lead bullets are very easy on the barrel.
