I recently purchased a GSG 1911 .22 and as you all know the better .22 ammo, like Federal, CCI mini mag and such are hard to come by this days. Is there another ammo out there which will work reasonable with a GSG 1911? Thanks for your time and advise guys. Take care and have a good one.

I found some Winchester M-22 recently in large quantity, and it runs my GSG perfectly... actually it runs all my semi-auto 22's perfectly. Really, any high velocity (1200-1300 fps) round should work just fine, allegedly even Remington Bucket O' Bullets :)

Remington HV 22 in the Milk Carton worked good in mine. CCI Mini mags worked best. Doctor Deals in Moncton, NB had lots in stock but I think this is old discontinued ammo.

Nope.
A few boxes of 40 here and there. A local shop has 5000/$500, not a good price.
The whole idea for me would be to shoot cheap bulk.
None at CT or LGS's.

If by 'better' you mean reliable cycling, try an aftermarket recoil spring. It will be a little stiffer than the stock spring. I installed one along with a full length guide rod right from the start, and haven't regretted it. My GSG cycles anything I feed it. Usually that means thunderbolts/golden bucket/m22, since they are half the price of minimags, so that makes them 'better'. Sure they're a bit dirtier, esp. the m22 I've seen, but I clean my guns after every range trip, so no big deal.

The spring has paid for itself many times over, with what I've saved from not having to buy the high impulse ammo. About 5k rounds through it at present, the only failures have been the occasional bad primer. Oh well, that's rimfire.

If you've put a thousand rounds, or polished the contact points on the rails, and stretched the magazine springs, you should be able to shoot anything with a HV velocity. Haven't had any issues with the Winchester Bucket O Bullets except dirty mags by the end of my session.

My apologize TriggerTime, with better I meant reliable cycling. Thanks for taking the time and given me your advise. Much appreciated!!!

Nobody around here seems to carry cci minimag round-nosed. Right from the start my gsg1911-22 has cycled well with remington standard velocity round nosed, 40g.

mine gets winchester m22 and rem b'O'b most of the time. federal if i have it. i've lost count on how many rounds mine has seen, but i suspect 7k or so.
