Best ammo for personal protection

the Winchester 127 gr +P+ is the stuff for 9mm, you can't get any better than that. I am thinking of doing another buy of it, if people are interested contact me by PM, it works out to about $30 a box Canadian, plus shipping and duty for me to get it, if I remember right, I can also get the .40 and .45 Ranger stuff too. As far as I am concerned the Ranger SXTs are the best stuff to get.
And if you end up having to shoot someone, using the same rounds LEOs use is the excuse you would offer. You would say if it's what the police use, then that's why you use it.
As for the storage requirements for restricteds, if you are home the gun doesn't need to be stored, it can be sitting on your night stand with a loaded mag right beside it. I like two full mags of SXTs and a light along with a gun personally. While body armor might be something to be worried about, I am reasonably confident that if the first two don't dump the tango then the next 18 to the face will. If it gets to the point where I have to use a gun to defend myself the situation has gotten to the point where it was absolutely needed, not just cuz some ####bag was trying to walk out with my TV, he has to be trying to take my comic books at least! (please note sarcasm, I would only defend myself from lethal threats, not property, with a gun)

They're not called "Black Talons" anymore, it's not politically correct.... Ranger SXTs....my, what a ####ed world we live in, when someone is offended by the name of some ammunition based on ethnicity....
 
I have a box of BT that is labeled SXT, before they changed the color of the bullets, I also have a box of BTs from before they changed the name. A friend of mine had 16 cases of the #### from before they changed the name. Siiigggghhh, apparently they are worth a ton on the collectors market now.

I have a box of the black SXTs too... marked for LEO use.

the "black talons" that i have are probably 6 or 7 years old which would make them the originals before or just after they were pulled and relabeled and color changed
just for kicks and giggles did they change what was stamped on the case?(not the box)

Slightly off subject, but someone at the start of this thread (first page I think) advised not to use handloads as 'self defense ammunition' for legal reasons.

I was wondering what were the reasons, as I've loaded a box of .45ACP loaded to +P specs topped with Barnes XPB bullets (ended being more costly than factory premium HP ammunition, but that's another story), and it made me wonder if I'd use them or not...

The argument goes that when you go to court after the shooting, the prosecution will portray you as bloodthirsty, making special custom ammunition to do the most damage you could to your future victim. By using factory ammo, (and better still, it's said - the same stuff the police use - ) you take this possible jury-prejudicing ploy out of the hands of the people trying to incarcerate you for defending yourself.

Wow! I maybe way off here, but I'm pretty sure that if someone was to come rob your house, they probably wouldn't be wearing a bullet proof vest.

As for me, all I have is my regular Winchester White Box stuff loaded.

I'm pretty certain that if I land 1 or 2 shots on the bastard, he won't be coming at me anymore, and if he did, I still have 8 more rounds. :)
 
here is my 2 cents, Use what ever operates the best. Reliablity is # 1. I use Ball (FMJ) for this very reason. just my opinion.
 
yeah, just use what law enforcement agencies use. they have tested and it has gone thru all the red tape already. If using the same ammo the LE uses is seen as overkill than we are all in trouble. It think more importantly, you should be aware of your physical and psychological abilities, and use something that is reliable. I have shot all types of ball and HP ammo thru my pistol. The only realistic scenario I can think of where SHTF, is some piece of s**t convict or ex-con breaking into my home and brandishing a weapon. The other scenario is that i have offended seriously a member of a gang, who has the connections to hurt me or my family.
Other than that, if Zombies start attacking it's game on.....;)
 
..... Whatever your local Police Force uses..... another option, given it's low level of unwanted "over-penetration" would be the "Glasser Safety Slugs" .... used in specialized applications by a number of Law Enforcement Agencies/units. ...... David K.
 
I think that the handloaded ammo issue is a bit of an urban legend which came out of the USA. Has anybody ever heard of a case where handloaded ammunition was the deciding factor in the decision for a guilty verdict against a person acting in self defense in a case in Canada? If you take unmodified factory bullets and reload them within the specifications in a reloading manual you haven't done anything that factory ammo doesn't duplicate or even exceed.

Guess again...your average tweaker or meth-head variant might not, but thre are those that do. If I were ever going to knock off a robbery, esp. someone's house that I knew had firearms and that was the purpose of my 'visit', I sure as hell would wear a vest. To think/assume that someone would not be wearing one is just foolish...
 
consider that among the #### they are seizing along with guns these days, vests are there almost every time too.
just a note, I got a reply back from my ammo guy and he's gotten out of the ammo biz. So my previous statement is incorrect, I cannot get any ammo. And I am annoyed, not at him, but just that I can't. I had the money all ready to go to get 3 boxes of each that I wanted. One to shoot, and two to keep.
