Best and worst Scope Warranty

My understanding is that it only applies to Leupold products purchases after Jan 1, 2011.

So if one was inclined to buy a used Leupold they would have to ask the seller for serial number and phone Korth to verify it is covered? Of course this is assuming it was not clearly made before 2011.

In my books this is another reason not to buy Leupold.

Yes, that would be the prudent thing to do for sure. Personally I support what Korth is doing...these grey retailers aren't helping the Canadian shooting sports one bit.

But if you are in the USA there is no added cost to the scope for the warranty. It would cost the same for Leupold to do the repairs as Korth.

So, if we pay an additional $200. on a scope which costs $400. in the US. That's like buying a chevy truck and paying an additional $15,000. for warranty which is free in the states! Leupolds are good but not that good.

I had a Zeiss Diavari C 3-9 that developed a tight zoom ring and took it to Zeiss in Toronto (dont recall it was in Markham .. although could have been) they were excellent. No issues .. it went to New York then Germany (IIRC) and back ... good as new and about 6 weeks which I thought was pretty good. Generally not a good idea to wait until the week before hunting season and expect a 2 day turnaround on a scope though. I have no problems with Zeiss!! Even the East German Zeiss Jena function fine ... although certainly not as nicely finished as the older W. German ones

bushnell sucks, 2 to 4 months on the scopes I have sent in, leupold is the best by far, I sent in a vari-x II and someone signed for it on sept 8th, my scope was mailed back to me fixed on the sept 10th, bushnell won`t even fix there scopes they just send you a new one

Neither are distributors/retailers monopolizing the sales of a brand and in turn bending over the consumer.

Agreed. Leupold makes a decent product but in my opinion the prices that we pay for them here in Canada are extremely over inflated for the quality of product that they provide. New prices can be up to 40% more than in the US. This is more than just our currency value difference. People often associate cost with quality, and therefore view Leupold as very high end scopes, I don't find that they fit their price bracket. If we were in the US then I think that all changes, and they provide great quality for the cost, but in canada I prefer to spend a bit more for swarovski or zeiss HD5, which aren't as inflated as the US cost.

I hear that people smack there scopes hard, send them in and they get replaced under warranty, it appears 100% the users fault. OK , I buy a moa/moa scope but really 'need' :) a mil/mil scope , can I send it in and receive back the mil/mil ? Just sayin' it was operator error and all.

I sometimes wonder what people actually do to their scopes or if it's just junk or bad luck that they need so much service. Out of all the scopes I've had, I sent in one Leupold that went bad due to a loose mount on the rifle, so not the scope's fault, and one old Zeiss that's been through hell several times. That one wasn't fixed under warranty, but I wasn't expecting it to be either. Warranties are for defects, not abuse. Think about it, if a company fixes your optic for free because you abuse it, there's something wrong.
I guess I try to buy those brands that don't require warranty often. So far it's worked.

5 months and counting with Burris. Figured since they're under Stoeger Canada in Whitby (about an hour out from me), it would be relatively quick. But they apparently sent it off to the US, so no time-line on when it'll be back... Ive tried inquiring several times, with "maybe the next shipment back" as an answer each time. Bought Vortex to keep me shooting in the meantime, and I think Im sold on Vortex now.

^^^^^ This, had a strikefire go bad, sent it back to them (and i'm not the original owner/no receipt). filled out their online form, shipped to them and a NEW strikefire was back in my hands within 2 weeks........top notch service.

That's a red dot optic...that's why you got bit back in 2 weeks. It's cheaper for Vortex Canada to send you a brand new red dot than to have to ship to US for inspection and to have the repairs made, and then ship back to Canada. Same thing happened to me with my SPARC...thought it was great. Let's face the facts, Vortex red dots are not expensive enough to have to undergo repair...that's why they send you a brand new one. When I sent my Viper in for service, different story all together. 5-6 weeks for inspection/repair/return.

Where did you send your Conquest for warranty that it took this long? I've only ever known of one Conquest that was sent in for warranty and it took 8 weeks....just curious where yours was sent.

Old thread lol.

I sent in a Conquest back in early/mid November, didn't hear anything until I initiated a request for an update just before Xmas. They said it was received, then sent to the US for repair and that I could expect to have it back by mid February if all went well. That would be a little over 3 months, assuming it arrives as predicted.

My Leupold warranty experience (Korth) was ok, turnaround was lightning fast however I was charged return shipping, which I didn't think was right as I paid to ship it there. Not a huge deal but it irritated me at the time.

My Leupold turn around was pretty good. They asked that I send everything back which I did ( prismatic scope with mounts) but when they returned it they misplaced and forgot to include the clamp that locks the mount to the rail on the gun. I had also asked if they could possibly sell me one of the risers that I was missing from my kit( it comes with 3 riser blocks). They did not acknowledge that request and actually when they returned the scope ( minus the clamp) there was no letter or note explaining what had been done just the scope with the missing piece.
When I contacted them about the missing piece, I talked with the shop boss on the phone about it and he was a bit snotty about the missing clamp? I also asked if they had any spare shims and explained which one I needed.
About a week later I got the missing clamp and some free shims. The shims were the wrong ones.... even though I had gone to great lengths to explain which size I was missing.
8 out of 10 I guess.

if Korth is not willing to repair a product you can always ask US Leupold they will take care of it and of course they will need an export permit to send back to Canada so delays ill be longer ...

i disagree about this policy and price requested by Korth.

I managed to break a bushnell 4200 elite tactical 6-24x50. called bushnell and was told i could now exchange it over the counter. I went down to the store I bought it from and they handed me a new one no questions asked.

Bushnell has really stepped it up lately.
How do you like the scope?
