I'm looking for suggestions for a brake to replace the A2 birdcage on a Colt 10.5" SAS upper. I'm leaning towards the gamma 556... does anyone have one of these? Impressions, suggestions.

Best as in?

The massive JP Enterprises brake is probably the flattest shooting one, but it isn't very tactical looking.

I'm quite fond of my PWS FSC.
I can't say for sure if its 'the best' but it's the best I have ever used and I have tried a lot. (certinly not all)
The first time I tried the FSC on a friends rifle I liked it so much compared to what I was using at the time I ordered one that night :p

I know they won't supprsess sound but some reviews say some are louder than others. Best as in recoil reduction and movement.
The precision armament Efab is a little pricey but the design is interesting.

I use the PRECISION ARMAMENT - AR-15 M4-72 SEVERE-DUTY COMPENSATOR DLC

Works great.

Yeah this. I don't know if how scientific the test was but there were over 60 of them tested in an article I read and if it was recoil reduction you are after it scored number 1

Having six of the muzzle brakes devices on the TTAG test list, I still find the PA muzzle breaks a little better for actual recoil and staying on target for follow up shots the downsize is they are big and heavy. I currently have the PA M11 in 5.56, PA M4-72 in .308, Lantac Dragon in 5.56 and .308, SilencerCo Trifecta 5.56 and a Surefire ProComp 5.56. That being said I am still waiting for GP tactical to get their shipment of Lantac Blast Mitigation Devices that fit over top of the Dragon. This way I can get the best compromise between recoil reduction and blast mitigation while not pissing off the people beside me on the range.

I see this asked quite a bit and Jeremy S on www.thetruthaboutguns.com reviewed a number of brakes (2 tests for .223 and 1 for .308) and flash hides (2 for .223). I find his research an interesting starting point.

Hope this helps.

Yes
Thanks

The gamma scored pretty well in that test.

Any opinions on how the Colt brake from the Danish IURs would do?

Great at hiding flash, not much of a compensator would be my guess,

The muzzle device on my Danish contract IUR does not work nearly as well as the Surfire Pro Comp I put on my 16" .223 bolt gun at mitigating recoil and keeping the sight on target. rommelrommel has it right IMO.

I received a Matador Hammerhead brake for Chistmas and installed it this week end. Havent had it out to the range yet, but being a Canadian product at a decent price I am hoping it works well.
