Browning Auto 5 with Japanese barrel and Invector chokes. Can be a light 12 or a magnum. These will NEVER wear out. These will never jam if the proper ammo is used. Just my opinion again.
cheers Darryl

Well I was in Gun Mart in Brockville today and Bruce had a Beretta Extrema 3.5, Browning Gold 3.5, and a Remmy 11-87 3 inch. All were nice, but I prefered the Beretta by far. But at a price tag of $1600+, I may have to keep looking? Any idea who might have the Stoeger in eastern Ontario?

Quinte Sports in Belleville has the Stoeger products but I would avoid them to be honest and stick with the Beretta line. By the way Brian is the name of the owner of Gun mart..........

If you dont like the price tag of the extremaII look at the 391 Urika. I just bought one this spring and have put almost 2000 rounds of cheap trap load through it with no jams or failure to fires. I also tried shooting slugs through it just to see how well the gas valve worked....I can shoot those slugs with one hand!!! (not accuratly mind you) I Love it!!!

and the price is in your price range. ~$1300 new...you can find them used for arround $900 on the EE

my 2 cents

Dave

Well for now I have picked up a used barrel for my 870 express from Doug. And I will also try to find something used. I am also going to try my old model 50--killed lotsa ducks as a kid with that ol' girl, might be good to get back in the saddel with her.:beerchug:

Another vote here for the Remington 11-87. I have owned a few of them over the years, and the latest is a 3-1/2 inch SPS with a 28 inch barrel for serious waterfowling. I've used them for the majority of my shotgun hunting for years, and I have had absolutely ZERO jams or malfunctions with them.

Finally going to retire my F/N Auto Five after at least 35 years of service (was my dads before me) still shoots great, but feel its time. Went looking at the local gun shop for a replacement last weekend. The Benelli-reminded me of the "Johnny 7" I had as a kid, except no rocket launcher attachment. To me it was a big hunk of ugly $1,500 black plastic (no pride of ownership here) Is it just me or am I missing something?

Funny whenever this question comes up, the SBE and 391 hog up all the attention. Truth is, both these guns are grossly overpriced (especially the SBE). Oh they are great guns, but there are others for less that are just as high quality and reliable, perhaps more so. Take a look at the Winchesters/Brownings if you like gas operation, Franchis if you like recoil operation. Beretta recently discontinued a very nice handling recoil operated gun too (ES100) if you can find one still in stock. They were under a grand too.

no Franchi

Franchi doesn't seem to import recoil-operated shotguns to Canada anymore. They're on the inertia bandwagon these days, alas. There is an Italian long-recoil gun advt by Marstar, though.

I shoot and vote for the SBE II in max-4d camo. Will mix and match and shoot all shells flawlessly. I have tried 3.5 ",3.0" and 2 3/4 trap loads together and it will cycle everything so far. Cleaning is a breeze.
For sporting clays I shoot the Beretta, 100 rounds a night with that soft gas recoil, but I curse cleaning that gas valve.

If your buddy has an 1187, why not take it out and see how it fits.

I'm sure that one shotgun is likely better than the next, but there really is no way to compare them evenly, they ALL have there highs and they all have their lows. They all have their bugs, my buddy just sent his Extrema back because it won't cycle properly(due to lack of maintenance I'm sure). As well as a 20G Urika that won't cycle the 3rd round, fresh out of the box.

Not slamming Beretta, just making a point that sooner or later they all break.

Why not just go down to the local gun desk and have the guy lay out all three, or four whatever models on the desk and leave you to them. One of them will fit better than the others, thats the one you buy.

Shoot your model 50 and if the barrel wears out I will sell you a model 50 barrel ; full, mod, skeet got them all, hell i have lots of complete 50's.
Call me and we will go duck hunting.
