Really just boils down to where you hunt and what you're hunting.
You're answer to the OP is quite different thaln mine, but he does make a good point concerning the 270.

300wm with 150g. In a normal weight scoped hunting rig, recoil seems on the low end.
hey ted being a retired pastor you act like a ass , you must be old enough can you even see 1000 yards even figure out how to work your ballistics calculator . First of all what are you shooting . Second type in 6.5 x55 at 3050 and see how many people are running that hot . Again I don't think your shooting out at 1000 or even 1200

For meat critters out to around 200 yds. or so, I prefer 6.5 Swede or .260 Remington.(On a standard length action) When hunting big game in the woods at closer than 100 yds., the .375 Winchester is my favorite.

He has forgotten more about shooting than most will ever know in a lifetime and will share it with others with more respect than you can ever imagine using.
I'm sure your little 3050fps 6.5x55 at 1000yds is the wand of death, but where you lost it with this crowd was in the proclamation that it has "no recoil or no wind drift".

Now as for the 3050 fps from a 6.5X55, even I would have to say that is a little overly optimistic, and as we all know I AM the authority on getting the last foot per second from any cartridge. However with a 30" barrel and using brass only once it may be possible.......I can tell you that mine maxes out at less than 2900 with a 140 from a 24" barrel.
