The .280 Rem fills that role for me. Better bullet selection than the .270 Win. More oomph than the smaller 6.5s while still having benign recoil, to get the same ballistics in .30 cal you start getting some decent recoil (realitve of course.)
I like 30 cal magnums, but I don't think there is a more balanced practical cartridge than the .280 Rem.
Not pick on you specifically Cam, but this line of thinking is absolute BS. Ive been reloading for over 20 years, and know 100's of other reloaders. Of them I am the only person that has reloaded outside of the 120-160gr availability that is their for both cartridges. They get the same velocity with the same BCs and they recoil the same. Ive loaded 90gr-180gr in .270s and 100grs-195grs in 7mms. Reasonable people find them synonymous.
