Best ballistic chronographer for the money for new to rolling

Get the magneto speed v3 ...... I use it for everything and as for shift in point of impact.... nothing at all
I have to say it is a great piece to use download the software and you make your dope
I think it's awsome
Try to see if someone has one to try it out
Reason I bought it over lab radar was for bullet speeds over I think it's 3300 fps it has a very hard time to read .... eh check with manufacturers first ...magneto can register up to 6000 fps I shoot high speed 22's
Chrony' s well they get shot
But do what you want and remember they all cost money first and good for a long time

That is correct. The BEST part of the CEDM2 is it will read EVERYTHING! Labradar? Nope. Magnetospeed? Nope.

I love new tech, but the limitations on Labradar, and Magnetospeed are a real deal-breaker for me. When they catch up or build something that works, I'll call them. Until then...

Agreed I needed to chrono more than my rifles at a reasonable price.

damn i had no idea there was so many different families of chrony's out there.
radar, magnet or normal.

well that dirties up the playing field some dosnt it!

think i may just go with a cheap one to start.

i LOVE what ive been seeing about the Labradar but im leery after watching some video's where they could not get it to read very well.
for $600 i kinda wanna be assured its gonna work every time.

i must admit im wondering how long ill go before i shoot the chrony!?!?!?!?!?!!!!

I am in the market for one as well. Labradar is on the top of the list. from the research I have done so far, most of the issues were related to user error as it's not as straightforward at the beginning and is also NOT designed for very close range test(say 15 feet).
otherwise, the technology is far advanced than the traditional chrono. even superior than magneto because not only it can be used for any pistol as well, it doesn't add possible POI shift into the test when the barrel is not strong enough like long range precision heavy barrel.

about the POI shift, it depends on the gun. If it's a heavy barrel on a long range precision rifle, likely none, but an average rifle with not so solid barrel, such as a varmint rifle, it will for sure. if you look at most of the users reported the POI shift, their rifles were not heavy barrel. it's simple physics. a piece of metal hanging on a barrel.

I had a Magnetospeed V3 to start with, and quite liked it, but what a pain to take it on and off every time I switched guns or barrels at the range.
Had a chance to buy a Labradar and sell my V3 for close to what I paid for it, so decided to try it out, and for me, no contest, Labradar wins hands down. Way easier to set up, to use, much quicker to operate etc.
Also love the fact that you can use it with several shooting buddies with zero set up. Just pick it off your bench, set it on their bench, and it's reading their shots. That would take 10 minutes of disassembly and reassembly with the V3.
If you only had one rifle at the range or only one or two to test, maybe the V3 is a good choice though still as it's cheaper and the electronics are quite well thought out too.
I tested them back to back, left the V3 on the rifle and used the Labradar at the same time, and usually only 2-3 fps difference in readings, and consistent too.
No wrong answer here, but can't deny if you have multiple rifles, or users, or want the easiest set up and use, Labradar wins easily.
Costs more for sure and is prone to accidental readings if you are at a jammed full shooting range, but that has never happened to me.
I bought a 30$ battery pack off Amazon for it, and it lasts 7-8 all day sessions with it, so non issue for me with the batteries too.

where did you all get your labradar, other than directly from manufacturer? wonder if there is a better deal somewhere.

Parts are cheap, and after the ubiquitous and appropriate F word is used, it's quite funny.

arms are 20 bucks, sensors are 55/pr... hell the CED M2 is only 300 bucks :)

There are some great reasons to choose Magnetospeed or Labradar. I myself would go Labradar BUT with it's current limitations, it is not a good fit for me, otherwise, I would spend the $$$ in a heartbeat.
And therein lies another small issue. Labradar is a little spendy. 700 bucks v a 300.00 CED M2.

The OP asked best chronograph FOR THE $$$. And in this instance, I believe the CED M2 stands alone. It will chrono everything from, has a computer interface, and for a measley 300.00 investment, you have a complete system.

Ive been using Labradar since April 2015. Have used it from 177 BB gun @ 250 fps, 17 Hornet 3500 fps, on up to 375's. Used it in the rain, snow. Works flawless
