Just picked up a ruger sr22 at cabelas and some butler creek 25 round mags. These were the only ones they sold and all they did was jam!! I've tried a couple different brands of ammo and same result. Anyone got any input to this? They are very loose fitting as well. I spent good money on this gun and these cheap plastic mags don't cut it

I use Butler Creek mags with no problems at all, and I have 4 of them. What ammo did you try, some guns are fussier than others, I'd suggest trying a couple more brands of ammo. Ive had good luck with Blazer when I could find it, and Federal Auto Match works well in mine.

Ya I got the plastics lip. I tried federal Winchester Remington and probably a few blazer and all jammed. Do they make any aluminum mags? If I wanted plastic I. Would have bought the Mossberg. Does anyone have this gun with these mags?

tactical inc are the best aside from the prohib ruger bx25 ones imo
steel lip butler creek ones will likely serve you fine though.

Does the gun work fine with the stock 10 round magazine and the ammo you tried?

Ya the stock mag seems fine. I guess I'll find some of the steel lips. Are they supposed to be such a loose fit?

I find you need to be diligent when loading the butler creek mags and ensure that each round sits correctly in the mag when you load. If there is insufficient spring tension the mag is probably binding on one of the rounds. Generally if I remove the top round and tap the mag it seems to be fine. They are a pain is the @$$ sometimes but that's what you get when you jam 25 tiny rimmed cartridges into a plastic mag built in China.

If your 25's are the plastic lip ones as your post seems to indicate then they are totally hit and miss on their reliability. My older well broken in guns, think 15,000+ rnds each, run them just fine, my newer plastic trigger housing gun won't run them at all, even with mini-mags or AM. They are a loose fit but IIRC there are a couple of fixes in the how to section. I've never felt the need to try them but a lot of people seemed to think they worked and kept the mags way tighter. I have a couple of the Tactical Inc. composite ones and I like the BC steel lips way better. All the 25 rnd mags seem to need to be broken in before they work all the time, I just load 15-20 rnds for the first 20-30 loadings or as others suggest start with 10 and if that works reliably keep adding a couple till it finally gets reliable with 25.

Keep using them and they may just break in. I don't know why that is, but I had 2 steel lip ones that would often jam, now I can mag dump them at will.

I remember now that my 10 round mags for my other 22 needed to be broke in also. They jammed like crazy in the beginning and now are fine. I still wish I could get some all metal ones

Ive taken BC right out of the package and loaded and ran 700$ rounds without an issue. I found ammo plays a huge part. I get the most jams from WIN 555. But less jams from more Round Nose bullets.

For my 25 BC I cut out a tin can and made a front and back plate I then used double sided tape to hold in place. (I curled the corners inward, toward the mag, to make sure it didn't try to peal off or catch on anything.)
Just make sure you dry fit before mounting them with tape, or glue. Worked fine for over a year now with no play.
