So the kids and I got out to do a little ammo testing this week.
Kids shot at 25 meters with just a front rest.
It was 40 degrees out with the humidex.
There was a 20kph wind. Thank god.

They did 10 shot groups at 4 targets. With each type of ammo. Each day.
One boy only got to shoot one day so.
Each type of ammo had 20 targets with a 10 shot group.
200 rounds of each type of ammo fired.

All three of my boys that shot were using Ruger 10/22s.
2 boys are 12 and other boy is 14.

This is the average group size.
1.11" 1st Winchester Super X 40g
1.16" 2nd Winchester Dynapoint GT 40g
1.18" 3rd Winchester 333 36g
1.29" 4th CCI Blazer 40g
1.56" 5th American Eagle 40g
1.81" 6th Federal Bulk Pack 36g

Now I shot my CZ452 at 50 Meters or 53 yards.
Front bipod and a rear bag.

5 shot groups at 12 targets with each type of ammo.
So 60 rounds of each type of ammo.
Only had 50 rounds of the Lapua Score Max and Standard Plus
Thanks for the Lapua ammo Glen.

Wind flags. AAHH 15M not moving at all, 25M blowing straight at me,
and 40M going straight UP. WTF lol

This is the average group size.
.367" 1st Lapua Score Max 48g
.647" 2nd American Eagle 40g
.670" 3rd CCI Blazer 40g
.745" 4th Winchester Super X 40g
.765" 5th Lapua Standard Plus
.767" 6th Federal Buld Pack
.856" 7th Winchester Dynapoint 40g
.948" 8th Winchester 333

Please post your own tests and 3 shot groups dont count. lol

Very interesting results. Thanks for the comparison. Where can I buy that Lapua ammo in southern Ontario? I've never seen it. My CZ 452 also shoots very well with that 40g American Eagle stuff.

You should do your testing at 100 yards, especially if you want to use that ammo in the Long Range Match. Vertical stringing won't show up at 50M.

Have a look at these results: http://www.accuratereloading.com/2009/bl100.html
There are several relatively inexpensive loads that grouped decently with no signs of vertical stringing.

Lapua and Eley ammo can be bought from Target Shooting Products, which is in the GTA.

I shot a few 100 meter groups today with my Suhl 150 and 36X Leupold. Ammo was ELEY Match EPS. 10-5 shot groups averaged .676, with the smallest group right at .400
Was a great day, warm with no wind, and a light overcast. Eagleye.

Speedjunkies,

Thanks for your report. But what really caught my eye is that you spent all that quality time at the range with your kids. Good on you.

I wish I can do the same with my grandson, in a few years.

10/22s all have the tougher buffers, auto bolt releases and barrel bands opened up
so they are not touching the barrels.
Did more tests this weekend. Was shooting out to 300 meters with my CZ.
Will post some more results tommorow.
Going to try shooting out to 300 meters witht the 10/22s next weekend.
Dont forget to check this out.
