I have been running a pair of Lee Pro1000's for a few years now. Bought them both used from guys who upgraded to Dillons. I reload three calibers so if I can find a third one cheap, it will eliminate change overs. Setup is not always straight forward; primer feeding is not always super reliable, but keep them clean and they work. No regrets, no need to change as far as I am concerned.
A lot of Lees stuff looks and feels cheap, but it works. For rifle, I use a Rock Chucker Supreme, but I use a Lee Bench Primer and their "Perfect" powder measure; most accurate one I have ever used with extruded rifle powder.
Apex 10, with FW Arms dies. Process in one pass, load in another. If you don't think you will need the 10 station capability, get a Dillon 1100. Both can be easily automated later, which you will appreciate.
Stay away from Lee, they are garbage.
I am thinking of going automated and the Apex 10 seems like the best bet (10 stations / built from the ground up to be automated / capability for sensors for everything which I feel are probably a must have etc etc).
Sounds like you have one, have you had any issues? How has the priming system been and which version of priming system do you run (the stock priming system that comes with it or the upgraded vibratory type primer Xpress) ?
I am moving up from a 650 Dillon so it will be quite the upgrade
Don’t even think twice about it !!!!
Dillon 550B… I run a pair of them, one set up for cases taking small primers and the other large primers. Another 10 preloaded quick change heads and everything is covered. Yes I’ve got or had all the other ‘brands’ but like the majority opinions of the others chiming in on this matter the 550B wins hands down by a mile!!
I went from the original 3 die Lee turret press which I used for 8 years to load 38 special. I purchased a used Dillon 550b 2 years ago and I am still amazed at how much easier it is to use with its longer linkage. Also 1 pull per round is so much better. It does need to be indexed manually but I dont use feeders for my cases or bullets so it becomes a motor muscle thing. I can comfortably produce 100 rounds in 40 mins. I know others can step it up and make rounds faster but I am very happy with this press and the accuracy of the powder drop which I do measure frequently. Also i find the work space on the machine to be a good size to pull a case of and check it. Their warranty is also excellent. I used it once with no issues. A friend of mine on here has 3-4 presses and he may be on a first name Basis with Dillon. I used to do long reloading sessions with the Lee as it seemed like such a chore. With the Dillon I normally do batches of 100 as its so quick and easy. I sort of enjoy reloading now.
any love for a Hornady PRO7 ?
older model, takes the same plates as the newer Lock N Load, just a little slower to change dies
but totally functional it looks like, and reasonably prices too
