In your opinion, what was the coolest, most innovative or best Black Rifle accessory that you picked up this year. It could be anything from a grip, stock or hand guard to internal components like a trigger, BCG, barrel or that perfect optic, mount or BUIS for your black rifle. Or even that perfect gadget or tool that made your range experience or maintenance hassle-free. ("Loctite" is not a valid accessory... ;) )

PS. Pictures (aka: "eye candy") are great, too!

Magpul AFG.

I found this product provides great purchase to tuck the rifle into my shoulder and tighten up my shooting, but I was really impressed with how it worked with my VZ. The VZ doesn't allow for a huge variety of grips, but the AFG really gives the shooter the ability to pull the rifle in close. I ran one on my VZ using NEA's front hanguards for Tactical Response's Fighting Rifle course and was very happy with the set-up. Not sure if I love it on AR's over a vertical grip, or a handstop, but on the VZ, it's the dog's danglers.

Aimpoint T-1/H-1 and a Geiselle trigger will make a decent shooter out of almost any gun.
Optics and trigger. Always high priority upgrades.

I bought a lot of new kit this year, Magpul this and that, Daniel Defense, Bolt's, levers, mags, etc, all for my new AR.

By far, the best piece of kit I think I bought was the Magpul MOE carbine length hand-guard.

MOE hand guards are so prevalent now that people don't really give them enough credit for what they are; which is an inexpensive, bomb poof, modular hand guard that will do almost anything the user requires with the right accessories.

It is easy to install with a simple tool, or if you have a Kung-Fu grip, with just hand pressure on the delta ring. They take a bunch of accessories (which are also easy to install) that will allow the user to configure it in pretty much any set up that suits them. They don't wobble around, are ergonomic and come in most any color to suit your fancy, except Pink, much to member 00Buck's chagrin. They also don't allow a fleshlight attachment, but I think 00Buck is working on one. Blaxsun will likely carry it when it's available.:D

People can drone on about the virtues of quad rail this and that and wax poetically about their modularity. But most of those systems cost ten times as much as the MOE. Save your cash, buy a MOE and a case of ammo.:)

Obligatory pic of my current set up....

Can holder. For those times when there isn't somebody nearby to hold your beer while you shoot. The Ram swivel version keeps spillage to a minimum no matter how you hold your rifle.

I realize I ought to write a brief "blurb", too, so here goes. A very basic but critically integral component of any semi-automatic black-rifle out there to-date is the detachable magazine. Because, let's face it, without a magazine you're shooting single-shot...:yingyang:...the LAR-15's do so many things for Canadian shooters, because they (a) literally double our single-magazine legal capacity, (b) accomplish that doubling by utlizing Canadian firearm laws/regulations toward our favour, not against us, and (c) allow us in Canada to even a taste of what it is like to be able to fire more than 5-shots of centerfire ammunition in a semi-automatic rifle without reloading !

Plus, it shows Canadian ingenuity and respect for our shooters' market demand - as well as the laudable and significant efforts of Canadian suppliers - that we have been able to access these magazines at a reasonable price and with reasonable availability here in Canada...:canadaFlag:

Oh, and another great thing is that these 10-shot magazines enhance the shooting experience of both restricted and non-restricted black rifles!

Because of all this, my choice for best black-rifle accessory would be............LAR-15 magazines......;)

Esp. when "couplers" are used !...:)...:

Oh, wow... tough question this time. There are SO MANY black rifle accessories moving across my bench each year. Even narrowing to this month would be tough!

If I had to stick to just one though, it would have to be the new line of Eotech EXPS/XPS sights. Not because the Aimpoint T1 is any better or lesser a sight, but it is very compact and doesn't have the FOV as the Eotechs. I have tried and owned both sights, I have kept the Eotech XPS. The XPS is newer tech and for me personally, is easier to use and shoot good scores with.

The Eotech sights have sometimes been much maligned over the years, primarily because many of the 55X series sights that take AA batteries would turn themselves off under recoil. The new XPS sights solve this by having a (better) CR123 battery mounted transverse to the upper. This negates the effects of recoil impulse on the battery compacts and makes the sight almost half as long. It also can now be mounted out over the railed hanguard, allowing room for both a magnifier and BUIS - another oft-mentioned shortcoming of the 55X series.

Light, excellent FOV, longer battery life, improved reliability, less demand for real estate on the upper and no need to buy an expensive ADM or Larue mount to co-witness with your irons. In other words, I have to give this a thumbs-up as my favourite new black rifle accessory for this year.

Close seconds awarded to Canadian-made pistol-length barrels (thanks NEA for making other options besides $500+ 7.5" Lothar Walther barrels from Questar) and the Spex series of muzzle devices going back into production.

And since you asked for eye candy...

My theoretical future vote goes to the new Troy Industries AR15 ambi charging handle. Unfortunately, I've not seen it in Canada yet and have not tried it personally, but it looks like it will be a winner, especially if they offer extended tac-latch options in both left and right. I'm liking Troy Ind stuff more and more each year - maybe my new favourite US-based AR company. They have become the "go to" for me when it comes to ambi accessories and FF rails.

That got my attention.

My favourite black-rifle accessory this year: the Leatherman MUT. Yes, it is a great multi-tool, looks good in black, and has cool / helpful gizmos like a replaceable black-rifle carbon scraper, cleaning rod adapter, MOLLE pouch, a bazillion screwdriver bits and titanium pocket clip, but there's more.

The MUT is advertised as a clearance tool, and sure enough my first AR-15 double-feed happened this year, and it was a bad one. Two rounds tried to enter the barrel extension at the same time - both thoroughly wedged such that a standard double-feed clearance drill was useless. The MUT smoothly exited its pouch and went to work, saving me from a DNF.

It doesn't get much cooler and blacker than that.

A decent optic suited for the type of shooting you are doing. This could be anything from an Aimpoint Micro to a high magnification Schmidt and Bender. I like ACOG sights myself. Using the BAC method, you can use it for CQB, and using it as a regular scope, with the proper BDC you can score first round hits on targets beyond 500 yards.

Things like quad rails, AFG's, BAD levers, aftermarket triggers, etc. can definitely give you an extra edge, but nothing helps put lead on target more than a good optic.

I have to say it is the Magpul MIAD. I had one on my last AR and I should have held on to it. I could set it up in tons of different configurations.

I had a certain grip setup for summer, a setup for winter while shooting with gloves on. It had a nice storage compartment with holder in the bottom, and just all around felt comfortable.

Best of all I was able to find an ideal setup for my wife to use that she felt comfortable with.

Like most Magpul accessories it is available in multiple colours so I could keep a matching OD green colour scheme going on.

A great piece of kit and one that will definitely be going on my next AR build.

ACOG.

Because I just got back from the 300 yard line where I almost fell asleep ringing an 8" gong with EVERY shot I took at it. I love this thing!!:D

Blue Force Gear Vickers sling. I think I bought over 16,000 of them this year :D

Enuff said.
