I know Norma and lapua make great brass. However, out of federal, remington, or winchester. What is the best in your oppinions for 30 06 loading. Also' how much more is the high end stuff compared to the big three mentioned above?

I have always used Win with good results however I recently bought a box of Federal Premium brass and it is very nice stuff.

Remington gets my vote! It tends to be thicker, hense a little less case capacity but they manufacture to much closer spec's than the Winchester and Federal brass. I very particular about sizing and trimming off the get go and Remington seems to be better. I neck size all my brass after its initial firing as I only have one rifle of a particular cal. so no worries about cross useage. Recently I mic'd some Winchester brass I had kicking around new and man were they ever off spec and inconsistant

I tend to prefer Win brass. It's a little harder than most, and wall thickness seems to be fairly consistent.

Flash hole debur, primer pocket uniforming, case neck turning (only slightly to clean it up) means that all cases are pretty good for at least the 1st firing. The question becomes one of how long it stays "good", i.e. with the natural tendancy for brass flowing to the neck over time.

Minimum case wall thickness variance across multiple points across it's circumference is an indicator of how long the "quality" will stay in quality brass. Cases with less variance will provide consistency longer without major rework other than length trimming/chamfering/primer pocket uniforming.

In closing, if you are willing to invest the time to tweak common brass into fancy brass, I'd put forth the concept that it may be better to have good common "tweaked" brass vs spending almost double on the fancy brass.

I usually just get whatever's available.

I divide it into lots, trim, weigh, and seperate. Following this method ensures consistent brass. I don't really need or expect better than about 1/2MOA, and everything I've tried so far delivers (except nickel plated :( )

In my .280 I prefer Win. Any time I have aquired rem or fed brass I found case lenghts to be all over the map. I had some Norma .280 brass and had high expectations but I gave me a huge pile of grief with cases sticking in the sizer and ending up with torn rims (too soft?). I experimented with more lube and ended up with lube dents - I couldn't find a happy medium for some reason. Now the Norma brass is gathering dust.
