Started this thread, so the other thread, where Norincos weren't welcome, wouldn't get derailed.

Discuss your ideas for a good budget 1911.....

I was in the "I would never buy a Norinco 1911" camp until I was offered one in like new condition for a too good to pass up price. With a little polishing and tweaking; it is reliable and as accurate as my STI Trojan.

A Norinco .45 is like a hammer. They just work. If you need a highly polished hammer, have at it. I like to hit what I aim at.

I just thought of another reason to like Norincos. For a lot less than $500 you can get a Commander length gun that takes standard capacity magazines. Norinco also sell high capacity .45s, like Para Ordnance did in the beginning. Colts never did that! There are even high capacity Commanders. Can Colts touch that?

Norinco, for sure , great learning platform , you can do bad things to it and not feel bad about it.

Back in the day , when the Americans could still get them ; the big custom houses would base their 1911's on the norinco slides and frames , because the steel is so good and aside from the grip screw threading, they are a series 70 colt pattern.

I bought mine thinking I would upgrade if I liked the 1911 platform; having since fired many more, including $1600.00 SIGs, I see no reason to upgrade. Good finish, great accuracy and function. What else is there?

I just became the owner of a commander length Norc that my buddy wanted me to have( ridiculously good deal). It is my first true 1911; had a Sig 1911-22 but that doesn’t really count does it lol. I’m a Glock guy and part of the deal was that I’d shoot the 1911 in competition with him. Shot it at our last IDPA and I must admit it was a super accurate and very nice pistol to work with.
Very impressed with the overall quality and feel of my Norc 1911 and I would definitely recommend one as an entry to the world of 1911’s

Norc govt with the unmarked slide.
Yep had 3, sold one, use one and the other is still in the grease, no markings except 1911 A-1, annnd you got a free case (1000) of Ammo, the one I use didn't really have much for sharp edges shoots very well! They were said to be over runs or cancelled order for a police or military order!
I have the commander two tone also, don't shoot it much but works awesome too!

Yes, that's a good one....

I bought a NP29 9mm with the extended releases and big mag button from Tenda a few years ago with 4 mags for about $400 shipped just to have a cheap 9mm. It has worked perfectly the whole time. It likes hot ammo as the spring is a little heavy for it. I realize I could customize it and download my ammo but it works fine. That also goes for any other customizations. The trigger on mine is quite short and crisp albeit a little heavy. I use it for action shooting so I dont notice as much when I’m all worked up with a scenario. It seems to feed al sorts of ammo and has no problem with lead alox since the chamber is a little oversized. I also picked up a couple of Dawson Precision ten round mags it is very reliable. As for accuracy it works just as well as anything I have tried at IDPA distances. Its no target pistol but I am sure with upgrades it could be but for me it works for my needs.

i had a few 1911 9mm norcs and while they were good i prefer way above the canuck i purchased not that long ago. mine was on a very deal as well. not verybody like turkish or chinese firearms all is good for us ...

I've had a few norinco 1911s over the years. Never kept one too long, they work but leave a lot to be desired IMO.

Guns typically hold their value pretty good. If you get a good deal on a used quality 1911 you can get ALL your money back if you decide to sell it. So i see no reason to stick to cheap Guns

I had one; shot accurately, functioned flawlessly, pretty good finish, but it was just blah compared to my Nork 45. Sold the 9mm after one range trip; thousands of rounds through my .45.

Good starter 1911's. Only problem for me is that in the past if you compete in US matches and put a Norinco 1911 on your Form 6NIA, it gets rejected and you can't take the pistol south.
