Best Budget Bolt Blaster?

Which budget bolt rifle is the best? Savage Axis, Remington 783, Ruger American or Mossberg 100 ATR?

I would agree it is a much better rifle, however it does cost more than the listed ones. Of the listed ones I think the Ruger American is the best, also available in a compact model and rim fire versions.

Axis is the best starter for the money by far.

I have held them all. i would rather go gunless for a bit longer before one of them came home with me. save up and buy a quality rifle. M70win M77 ruger 700rem. 116savage. that's just me. it will pay for its self in either a long life of service or good resale if you decide you want something different.

you missed the Marlin X7 series.
Other than the lack of a detachable mag (if that's your thing) it beats the Axis hands down.

Exactly right.....Since the Stevens Model 200 has been discontinued , the Marlin X7 is the next best choice by far.......

I have a XL7 and its a great shooter and just picked up an American and so far only tried it at 50yards and it may just out shoot the Marlin.

Except for the cost of ammo I'd agree 100%. If you're lucky enough to live near a Ranger Patrol Group you can sign on, get free pants, a nifty red hoodie and not only a free rifle but ammo too!

Don't forget any decent condition No.1 mk 3's out there as well.
If you don't mind iron sights and hunt within reasonable ranges, a Mosin Nagant, K98 Mauser,
K31 Swiss or many other good condition milsurps will serve you well.

As long as the vanguard is available the other 4 shouldn't even be on the market.

For cheap budget models the Marlin XL7 wins, but spend a little more for the vanguard over lots of other rifles for sure. I won't even vote on the options listed.

I tried to order a Stevens Model 200 from Cabelas , and was told that Stevens was not making them anymore.....so I purchased one from the Gundealer ( 300Win.Mag. ) , and they also told me that Stevens had discontinued them and that they were unable to order any more....that was around a year ago....I think they said it was being replaced by the Savage Axis.....
