Best Budget O/U

I was trying to sell my CZ Redhead because I got a Beretta but the amount people were offering for it, I said screw it and I'm keeping it. The CZ is an excellent gun no mater what model it is. I would highly recommend it.

Ive been running my remington 870 express in mossy oak camo for the last year for skeet and more recently trap. I remember getting some flak from "newer" shooters saying that the game couldn't be taken seriously without an O/U. I then proceeded to out shoot them with my pump. The more professional guys know that before O/U's everyone shot pumps.
anyways, when asking the more experienced guys, I was told that the citori is the way to go whether you are buying new or used because of how well they wear.

I just recently bought a turkish O/U that will arrive tomorrow for less than 700 used. I plan to buy a citori white lighting in 12g eventually when I can afford it.

The serious guys at my club shoot Kolars but they start at 16000 with tubes.

I'd have to +1 on a baikal. A guy I sometimes squad with shoots one. It is not very pretty. It is not refined. It is not a good example of "craftsmanship". It goes bang every time and is solid- I can't imagine he would ever wear it out. It isn't a single trigger- but he does ok with the dual triggers and extractors. Like people said- to get a budget O/U then you have to give something up. With a baikal you give up refinement but mechanically they seem pretty good. As with any firearm- individual examples are not representative of the entire population- and I doubt there is a shotgun made that has a 100% perfect reliability record. When you pay for a B or K gun you get service. It isn't reasonable to expect the same for a turkish/brazilian/russian budget gun. CZ service in Canada in my experience isn't very good- but I don't have a shotgun so maybe it is different. I tried to get some rifle parts and had a hard time.

Here's my new baby :)

Who told you that nonsense? Long ago many people were using sxs and semi auto shotguns for skeet, everyone was not shooting pump actions for skeet.

Madcow "Pumps are the worst to use for skeet/trap"

That must be why 3 members of my club use a model 12 skeet, one of which went 75 straight a couple of weeks back. A lot of records through 70's were set using pump. One of the best shots in my club normally uses a model 12, last night it was a model 12 20ga, 26" BBL Full he just picked up. Shot a 24. Figured he'd shoot a few rounds with it, as is, before having it opened up to Skeet or I/C. I shoot some of my best scores with a Benelli Nova. At our fun shoot on Saturday, one of the better scores posted was a hunter from north or here shooting a camo Wichester SXP. I'd rather see someone with a good fitting well made slide action in their hands on skeet field then a poor made brazillian O/U any day.

Pumps are the worst to use for skeet/trap

Too funny. Should have told us that in the 60's when we were running the targets in all gauges with pumps. Nothing like watching a man shoot a pump that knows how to use it which is very rare today. Many think they can however
I actually made the full circle with my skeet and trap guns and sold off the Kolar/tubes and 4 barrel sets and am back using the same set of skeet 870's where I started
Didnot hurt my scores and a hell of a lot more fun
Cheers

That all depends how far back you can remember. Before the big push with the remington 1100 in 1963 there was very very few using anything other than a pump down this way. Model 31's, 12's and 870's were the norm Few had the early semi's of the time since if you can remember all semi's were going to be banned ( yes even back then) which is why I waited a couple of years to get my first 1100 in the mid 60's

So nice to see. Yep today when I see some old gray haired dude (like me ;) )step up with a model 12 I step back and watch. Normally they can still put on quite a show
One dude here must be 75 now has one of a nicest skeet model 12 I have ever seen, wood to die for and yes of course he has that big old cutts on the end and he can still run them even though he will tell you how blind he is :)
When she barks you know you are watching something special

Cutts compensators - the Briggs and Stratton of the shotgun world!;)
I had a model 12 with a Cutts and Simmons rib on it at one time, what a great gun and super fast for doubles skeet!
As far as trap goes, th action doesn't really matter I have found!

I bought my kid a Yildiz 20 ga made in Turkey, which as I recall was about 800 bucks at WSS. I was quite impressed with the quality of this shotgun and the kid shot a 21 with it, his best score to date. I tried it and shot a 24 and I'm not much of a shotgunner. These shotguns are twice the gun a Mossberg, Stoger or Baikal and IMO better they're better made and finished than the CZs as well. You might want to take a look at them.................

None of the Model 12's the boys are using have a cutts compensator although one of them has an 1897 with a poly choke on it. They are a few of us shooting slide actions on a skeet field because we want to. The slide actions are more common on our trap field, 870 Trap, SXP Trap, Model 12Y Trap are as common as the K80 Unsingle & Browning Special Trap at our club.

While the alloy framed shotguns like Yildiz are well made for the price, and work well for hunting guns, I would prefer to have a steel framed gun for high volume shooting, such as trap or skeet.

I'm dabbling with the idea of an O/U for trap and 5-stand, which means I'll be wanting choke tubes (or used with a couple bbl sets?)

Don't really know what I'm looking for, but I can't spend $2k+ for what will just be a fun weekly thing. I see that CZ has a left hand version of theirs, now, and the Ruger Red Label is making a comeback.

I may look in either of those directions, depending what seems to fit.

Did they? Maybe that's why some of their links were dead...

I shot a Citori 725 sporting for a few rounds at an event today and I may well be spoiled.

I see they make left handed versions.... I may have to stop buying guns until next summer lol

When you say used old citori. How old is old?
I recently offer around 1K for a citori special trap made in 1978 with fixed coke, monte carlo stockin. fairly good condition.
The person to whom I made the offer semmed to be insulted by the offer. How old is a 1k Citori ?
