"Beat bullet for a bison" my recommendation is 375 H+H 350 grain woodley. I harvested a cow after christmas, one shot through the lungs, she walked a small semi circle, layed down, and expired, all in less than a minute. No muss no fuss.
Everything requires 2800 FPE including black powder for hunting them up here. It was put in because there was a lot of people wounding them and not recovering.
Actually if you read the legislation, the Wildlife Act and the Wildlife Act Regulations, they are clear that the 2800 FPE minumum does NOT apply to muzzle loaders. The morons who do the little Hunting Regulations Summary that you get with your liscence just added this little tidbit on their own, but it is NOT a legally enforceable item as it exists nowhere except the little Regs Summary, which is not a legal document. They do this sort of thing all the time. A few years back they stated that 30-06 with 180 grain factory ammo was "an example" of a legal load, then they changed it to say "it is the legal minimum", then they corrected themselves back to "an example", and then the added the FPE requirements for muzzle loaders, despite it not being in the actual (legally enforceable) regs.
A blowhard CO may chose to give a black powder hunter a hassle, so it may not be worth fighting over, but the legal regs do not support any charges or interference by a CO if someone is using a black powder firearm with less than 2800 FPE at the muzzle. I triple checked all this in November 2012, after they relased their bogus FPE requirments in the Regs Summary.
