Looking for input on actual experience. Not heard about or read somewhere. Put the bullet in and then the details. Barnes 62gr Varmint Grenade any good. I’m shooting 6BRs with 1-7 twist barrels.

I shot the 70 gr blitzking and varmint ballistic tips on coyotes a long time ago. They made big holes. I’m not sure there is a 243 cal varmint bullet that is as explosive and shallow penetrating as the light 223 or 204 offerings. Possibly the varmint grenades but I have never used them.

Shot a lot with an 80 gr Winchester psp. loaded to the same speed as their 100 gr factorys. Shot almost exactly to the same point of impact. Kind of hard on the hide, but then I wasn't really worried about the fur, as long as the owner was dead. .....catnip

Coyotes I've shot have been targets of opportunity when big game hunting. The 224 bullets work well. Having ample energy, all 243 bullets would work. Some will punch right through with little expansion, but get the job done. Others, more frangible and light for bore may leave a exit hole the size of a grapefruit. Do you want the hides, do you like sewing.

My buddy used vmax bullets in a lighter weight. I want to say 55gr iirc. They killed as well as my 2506 with 75gr bullets. As in dead right there however his were much cleaner as in my 2506 was not fur friendly inside 200 yards. Passed 100 yards he rarely if ever got an exit wound with his vmax and the only times I saw evidence of splashing was shots less than 50 yards. His 243 experience is what made me interested in the 243ai. He always complained his brass stretched alot in his 243. The AI version should cure that issue. When he shot heavier sierra bullets he had less drop and wind deflection than I did with my 75gr vmax from my 2506. His rifle didn't like the varmint grenades. Could have been my loading we gave up before playing with seating depths. The vmax shot as could as I can shoot from his rifle

The least messy 6mm round i have used to date are 80gr ttsx and 90 gr Etips. Not quite as fast killing but no blown up hides. If you want hammer of thor DRT performance and 55-70gr soft varmint bullets work from all the major manufacturers however all of them will be very hard on hides.. go to a hard controlled expansion bullet and you get slower kills but good performance on hides.. pick your poison.

I've messed with a lot of calibers and a lot of coyotes. Best all around bullet for saving fur was the 62gr Berger FB Match, although those are now discontinued i believe. 2nd best would be the 70gr Nosler Varmageddons (not the BT Varmint), neither of which pushed at extreme speeds.

If you're strictly looking at knock down, 70gr blitz king, 70gr-90gr vmax, even those new ELD Varmint bullets from hornady would work well. Judy find an accuracy node, work a load and run with them. If saving fur isn't important, push them fast and hard and you'll be successful!

Barnes 85 tsx is good one as shot few deer and yotes with it. Deer did not have any shot meat as went through ribs on all. As for yotes there was no big holes on any but I did not skin these ones. I have skinned many shot with 223 and I truly dislike the ones shot with bad bullets in 22-250. Some of them need two to make one

Shot around 200 fox and several Sika deer with 80gr Sierra SPBT Varminter, they behaved like a normal soft point however were very accurate out of a few 243's and a 6PPC. That bullet never disappointed.

I’ve shot a few with 87g vmax and 87g hpbt. They tear them up. So if you want clean fur, they aren’t great.

100g partitions @ 3000fps have be great for a clean entrance/exit.

Ha have some 55g nosler varmagedon I’m hoping to get some feed back on this winter. If they don’t exit they should be good.

Thanks for most of the replies, appreciate your time and knowledge. Was hoping someone had experience with the 62 GR Barnes. I have aquired a bunch through a bulk bullet purchase. I’ll just shoot some and see what transpires.
