For my next gun ive decided on a middle field round and am trying to find whats out there for short, quick rifles. I'd like a bolt, (best accuracy?) iron sights, drilled n tapped reciever, DM, composite. Am I asking too much?

Buy a Remington 760 or 7600 pump carbine. They come in a wide variety of calibers in both wood or synthetic. I realize you specified a bolt but these guns are reliable, fast handling, compact and come with a DM. As far as accuracy goes they shoot well enough for any Canadian hunting situation:D. Good luck!

X 3!

And for the record many of these pumps shoot as well or damn near as well as factory bolt guns.

Model 7 would be my 2nd pick.

Not much available with factory irons anymore. Savage Scout in .308 would fit the bill. You can alway put a normal scope on it if the scout thing doesn't float your boat. Easy to rebarrel to .260 or 7/08 if you get bored with .308. I just wish they made the damned thing in stainless.

i own two vanguards (howa) and i really like the action/fit of stock but i hate how the damned barrels heat up so bad. i saw a production vanguard carbine with good irons and all the stuff i want, how would a vanguard be in say, a 6.5x55 or a 270? what can i do to put an end to this? how are savage, ruger, etc. barrels for heat? Just want to know my options

Now that everyone has mentioned the 7600, I'll also mention the Weatherby Vanguard Back Country Carbine...Covers all your requirements, except the DM, which might be available as an add-on in the near future...
