Hi I didn't know where to post this so ILL try this. No advertising is any help so please give me by your experience what is the best carbon remover you have used on your gas operated shotgun? Thank You for any help. Dan

I soak gas pistons in Hoppes, then rinse them with lighter fluid. The key is to clean more often, and not let the carbon build up. I can have my semi autos very clean in 15 minutes, if I do it after every outing, but I spent a few hours cleaning the same make and model that hadn't been cleaned in two years. And even after a few hours, it still wasn't as clean as my guns.

Agree, using it for well over twenty years and my go to for cleaning my shotguns. Be careful not to get it on the stocks.

Another vote for home made Ed's Red !!
Using it all my life on all my firearms...actually use it for more than just guns.
A good scotch bright pad and a bit of elbow grease will clean and shine up the dirtiest of mag tubes as well.

Over the years, I've cleaned a few semis for some friends and friends of friends, who, amazingly enuff...never knew firearms came apart !! LOL
Sometimes, on the real bad ones, I drop the gas cylinder into a bottle/container of CLR over night..shake it a few times as it's sitting, this stuff does wonders as well.
After the CLR soak, I put it in a bottle of Ed's Red and shake it for a minute or so. Give it a scrub with an old tooth brush, inside and out, re-rinse with ER. Set it on some shop towel and let it drip dry...or, if in a hurry, blow it dry with your compressor. Usually looks new.

PS...don't forget to Ed's Red clean the gas ports in the barrel !!!!

I've always had really good results with CarbOut. Honestly though, Paint Thinner (Mineral Spirits) works just as well for $5 a litre instead of $20 for 8oz. Use what you've got - it all works.
