What is your favorite entry level hunting ammo? I want to shoot my 7mm Rem Mag a ton and need a simple cheap deer bullet under 30$ a box. Premiums don't make sense for punching paper for months on end and I don't reload so........

Do you favor the Federal soft points, Remington express Core-lokt, Fusion, Winchesters entry level soft point? I am leaning toward the Fusion as I have had great results in the .308.

I bought a box of each of the above and will group them all in the coming weeks who wants to guess on the most and least accurate?

I have a friend that shoots alot and the ammo his 300 wsm like the best is the silver boxed Win from WalMart, I think its $21.00, should be available in 7 Mag.

best cheap ammo

Remington CoreLokt. It is quite accurate in my rifles and works just fine. In 300 mag with 180 grain bullet I have taken without a hitch, deer, black bear, moose, goat, caribou and sheep.

My Brother has done a quite a bit of glass bedding for people, and when he tests guns and sights them in he has been using Winchester cheep bullets I think the same as Fassteel mentioned in above post,I picked him up some in30.06 & .270 win at Leberon's last fall $16.95 a box both guns shot under the inch easly, and he was very impressed with velocity he was getting from both over the chronograph
Hope this might help

It doesn't take too much shooting at $30/box for reloading to start making sense from an economic standpoint. Figgure you could reload a box for $10, so in 10 boxes you've saved enough for one of those starter kits

I used to get the best accuracy out of my BSA P17 .30-06 or .303 British LB No.4 Mk.1 with Federal Classics (now they are called Hi-Shok.)

I compared the .30-06 to: Remington, Winchester, Hornady, and Federal Premium. They were generally the cheapest box to buy so I quite happily shot them exclusively.

In .303 British I tried: Winchester, Federal, and old British surplus. Once again the cheapest Federal rounds shot the best.

One day I shot a box of twenty rounds through my scoped BSA at 100 yards and I could have laid a loonie over the group. With the Enfield and open sights I had the holes in the paper touching at 100 yards.

Federal uses an extremely clean burning powder that doesn't blacken the inside of the case and bore like Winchester powder does. Unfortunately, I've been informed they don't sell that type of powder to the general public.

Have fun with your test!

I use to use the Win. silver tips all the time and were great in the thick bush, but now went with the ballistic tips which I find are deadly accurate in my rifle for those nice long field shots...but they are around $31

Federal Blue box

I just tried these out for the first time on friday and the 308 in 150 grain were $19.00 a box at P&D, I was amazed at their accuracy, even in the southern Alberta wind I was shooting in. Was only at 105 meters but they worked great in my VS Rem.FS

Just about any of the cheaper ammo will give hunting accuracy out of most rifles. Just remember to re-sight with your hunting ammo before your next hunt.

I buy the Win Power Points in some cartridges. It shoots consitant and works well on game when asked. But perfer my handloads.

Well I shot the Winchester Power points, Remington Corelokts, Federal Power Shock all in 150 grains today here are the results for my Husky 7mm Rem Mag at 100 yards.

1.) Remington corelokts 3 shot group = a little less than 3/4" and kept 10 shots fired in 5 shot groups all in 1.5". 1.5 inches at 200 yards 3 shot group.

2.) Winchester Power Points 3 shot group = 2 inches

3.) Federal Power Shock 3 shot group = a little less than 3 inches 10 shot grouping ( 5 and 5) was almost 5 inches

I was really surprised at the inconsistancy in the federal ammo bullets were flying all over th place. Wow these corelokts were consistant I might just use them for everything and not just punching paper. It is the best ammo that I have used in the gun thus far.
